LATAM and Qantas Expand Codeshare

LATAM and Qantas Expand Codeshare - Making Australia More Accessible for South American Travellers
Good news for anyone who’s ever tried to plan a trip from South America to Australia. LATAM and Qantas have expanded their codeshare agreement, making it way easier to reach destinations beyond Sydney and Melbourne.
Cairns, Darwin, and even Singapore can now be booked through a single ticket. Travellers no longer have to fear about expecting a leisurely holiday for their checked luggage, or making multiple unscheduled flights. This is effective from late February 2025.

New Routes for the Ultimate Aussie Adventure
With this LATAM and Qantas Expand Codeshare, LATAM passengers can now seamlessly fly to:
Domestic Australian Routes:
- Melbourne – Alice Springs (For those who want to meet a kangaroo in its natural habitat)
- Melbourne – Cairns (Great Barrier Reef, anyone?)
- Melbourne – Darwin (Where crocs are the locals)
- Melbourne – Devonport & Launceston (Gateway to Tasmania’s wine and wilderness)
- Melbourne – Mildura (Because Victoria’s outback deserves love too!)
- Sydney – Alice Springs & Darwin (More red desert, more adventure)
International Route:
- Melbourne – Singapore (Hello, laksa and luxury layovers!)
What This Means for Travellers
Prior to these advancements, LATAM only serviced Sydney and Melbourne, forcing passengers to struggle with booking onward domestic flights. Today, with one easy booking, travellers can smoothly transition from São Paulo to Sydney and then to Cairns without a hassle.
For business professionals, this allows for greater ease of access to major centers like Darwin (mining, government) and Tasmania (luxury retreats and, well… really fancy cheese). For thrill-seekers, it’s a golden ticket to travel around Australia’s Outback, tropical north, and hidden gems rather than just circling between Bondi Beach and Melbourne’s coffee shops.
Aviation’s New Best Trend: Codeshare Everything
This move follows a growing airline trend: why fly everywhere yourself when you can team up instead? Instead of launching costly long-haul routes, airlines like LATAM and Qantas are partnering up to expand their networks without breaking the bank.
What does this mean for you?
More flight options without needing to book separate tickets
Fewer headaches with baggage transfers and check-ins
Potentially lower fares (because competition = cheaper flights)
With LATAM planning more expansion and Qantas happy to dominate the regional market, this codeshare could be just the beginning. Who knows—maybe Brisbane or Perth will be next?
For now, one thing is clear: getting from South America to Australia’s most breathtaking destinations just got a whole lot easier. And that’s worth celebrating—preferably with a flat white in Melbourne or a Tim Tam in Darwin.
