American Airlines Adds Rome Route

American Airlines Adds Rome to Its Summer Travel Feast

American Airlines just made it a whole lot easier to swap your Cafecito for a cappuccino—with a brand-new direct flight from Miami to Rome. That’s right, the Magic City is getting some serious la dolce vita, and your summer just got a lot more pasta-packed.

The inaugural flight to the Eternal City took off with a full-blown Italian-themed bash—ribbon-cutting, festivities, and probably someone yelling “Andiamo!” while holding a gelato. It’s now American’s fifth European route out of Miami, which is officially becoming less beachwear, more bespoke tailoring.

American’s Summer Schedule? Bellissimo and Bonkers

This new Rome service isn’t a solo act. It’s part of American Airlines’ biggest-ever summer schedule at Miami International Airport. We’re talking 37,200 flights between May 16 and September 2. That’s about five flights per minute—so if you blink, another plane’s already halfway to Cancun.

In addition to Rome, American is beefing up service to other hotspots like Chicago, Las Vegas, Montego Bay, LA, and New York. Basically, if you can dream it (and it’s not Antarctica), American is probably flying there from Miami.

Miami Is Having a Moment (Again)

This epic flight expansion isn’t just about globetrotting. It’s a celebration of American Airlines’ 35-year love affair with Miami—one full of takeoffs, touchdowns, and questionable terminal coffee. Now serving 170 destinations from MIA (including 90 you can’t get with any other airline), American is putting Miami at the center of the summer travel universe.

Bottom Line: Rome Is Just One Boarding Pass Away

Whether you’re craving carbonara in Trastevere or just looking to show off your passport stamps, American’s got your summer plans sorted. Miami to Rome? That’s amore. Just don’t forget your neck pillow—and maybe brush up on your Italian for “I overpacked.”
