Hungary regains full access to ESTA USA

Hungary regains full access to ESTA USA

After a few years of travel drama, Hungarians can finally dust off their suitcases and dream big again. Starting September 30, 2025, the U.S.A. is restoring full ESTA privileges for Hungary. Translation: two years of hassle-free, multiple-entry access to the States are officially back on the menu.

A Rocky Few Years

It wasn’t always this smooth. Back in 2021, Washington decided Hungary’s ESTA privileges needed a little “tightening.” Cue revoked authorizations, denied applications, and the kind of bureaucratic heartbreak usually reserved for expired passports. Fast-forward to 2023, and things got even stingier: validity was chopped down to one year, and travelers were allowed just one trip. Think of it as getting Netflix but being told you can only watch one episode. Ever.

Back in the Club

But now, after Hungary jumped through the hoops and beefed up its security standards, Uncle Sam is rolling out the welcome mat again. As DHS Secretary Kristi Noem put it, Hungary is “back in good standing” with the Visa Waiver Program. In simpler terms: Hungarian travelers are once again on equal footing with folks from the other 41 countries in the club.

Orbán Celebrates in Style

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wasted no time in celebrating. Taking to social media, he declared, “Visa-free travel to the U.S. is back. Truly fitting for two friendly nations. Let no one say friendship makes no difference!” In other words: pack your bags, folks — New York, Miami, and Disney World are calling.

What It Means for Travelers

For everyday Hungarians, this means smoother trips, less paperwork, and more spontaneous “let’s go to America!” moments. Whether it’s shopping sprees in Manhattan, road trips on Route 66, or just bragging rights at Sunday lunch, travel just got a whole lot easier.

So, after a few years of ESTA drama, Hungary’s passport holders are finally free to chase the American dream again — and maybe a few oversized portions of pancakes while they’re at it.
