airBaltic announces New Gran Canaria–Ljubljana Route

airBaltic announces New Gran Canaria–Ljubljana Route
Because who says winter can’t include both beaches and mulled wine?

Pack your sunscreen and your scarf — airBaltic has just launched a brand-new direct route between Gran Canaria (Spain) and Ljubljana (Slovenia)! Operating every Friday through April 2026, this five-hour flight is basically your golden bridge between palm trees and Alpine peaks.

Whether you’re escaping winter’s gloom or craving a dose of city charm with your sangria, this new connection brings together two worlds that couldn’t be more different — and that’s exactly why we love it.

From Snow Boots to Sandals in One Flight

According to Mantas Vrubliauskas, airBaltic’s VP of Network Management, this new route will tempt plenty of Slovenians to ditch their coats for cocktails this winter. “We’re excited to offer even more sunny escapes,” he said — which roughly translates to “you deserve to tan in January.”

But it’s not a one-way deal. Canarian locals can now hop over to Ljubljana to wander its storybook old town, sip coffee by the Ljubljanica River, and wonder why they didn’t pack gloves.

Flying in Style (and Wi-Fi)

Flights are operated by the Airbus A220-300, a sleek little jet offering wider seats, bigger windows, and more cabin space — perfect for stretching out after a few too many tapas.

And here’s the fun part: airBaltic is rolling out free SpaceX Starlink Wi-Fi across its fleet, making it the first European airline to bring high-speed internet to the skies. So yes, you can post your “beach to baroque” selfies in real time.

airBaltic’s Winter Playground Expands

This winter, airBaltic’s Gran Canaria base will serve seven destinations, including Billund, Ljubljana, Molde, Oslo Torp, Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius — basically, half of Northern Europe’s snowbirds are heading south.

And as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations, the airline continues to grow its sunny Spanish footprint, now flying from eight airports across Spain: Alicante, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, Madrid, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife, and Valencia.

So whether you’re swapping paella for potica or snow for sangria, airBaltic’s got your ticket to both. It’s winter travel with options: one flight to defrost your soul — and maybe your toes.
