Etihad Airways and Hong Kong Airlines new codeshare and loyalty agreement
If you’ve ever tried booking connecting flights across Asia and the Middle East and ended up with more tabs open than your laptop could handle, good news — Etihad Airways and Hong Kong Airlines just made life a whole lot simpler.
The two carriers have officially decided to take their long-distance relationship to the next level with a new codeshare and loyalty partnership, meaning smoother travel, more miles, and fewer “where’s my luggage?” moments.
So, what’s the deal?
Etihad passengers can now hop onto Hong Kong Airlines flights from Hong Kong straight to Japan’s greatest hits — think Fukuoka, Hokkaido-Sapporo, Osaka, and Okinawa. Meanwhile, Hong Kong Airlines’ flights between Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi will proudly wear Etihad’s “EY” code, because nothing says commitment like sharing your initials.
This means one ticket, one check-in, and your bags magically appearing at your final destination (hopefully). Basically, it’s travel adulting made easy.

More miles, fewer headaches
Both airlines are also giving your loyalty programs a glow-up. Soon, Etihad Guest and Fortune Wings Club members will be able to earn and redeem miles across both networks — from Tokyo to Tunis and beyond. Translation: every ramen bowl, desert adventure, and duty-free splurge can now get you closer to your next flight.
Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, Arik De, called the partnership “meaningful value through expanded connectivity and full loyalty integration” — corporate speak for “your travel life just got way better.” Over at Hong Kong Airlines, Executive VP Louis Li is equally pumped, calling it a big win for the airline’s global comeback and a shiny new link between Hong Kong and the GCC.
A reunion worth flying for
If this sounds familiar, that’s because Etihad and Hong Kong Airlines first teamed up back in 2014. Now, they’re reigniting the partnership stronger than ever — like a sequel nobody asked for, but everyone’s glad exists.
With Abu Dhabi sitting right in the middle of it all, this new partnership basically turns it into a global connection hub linking Greater China, Japan, and the Middle East — all with a lot less stress and a lot more frequent flyer perks.
So buckle up: your next Asia–Middle East trip just got a serious upgrade.
