China extends visa-free policy until 2026

China extends visa-free policy until 2026 — France (and Friends) Included

Pack your bags, dust off your Mandarin phrasebook (or download Google Translate), because China just extended its visa-free policy for another year! Yep, if you’re from France — or one of 40+ other lucky countries — you can keep breezing into China visa-free until December 31, 2026.

That’s one extra year to stroll along the Great Wall, sample dumplings that will change your life, and confidently butcher the pronunciation of “Xie Xie” in every restaurant you visit.

The big announcement

At a press conference that probably featured more cameras than a K-pop concert, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning confirmed the news: China’s 30-day visa-free entry program is getting a well-deserved extension.

The goal? To make travel smoother, boost global friendships, and keep the tourism engine humming. (Also, let’s be real — who wouldn’t want 7 million extra tourists buying bubble tea and pandas souvenirs?)

So, who’s invited to the party?

A total of 45 countries and territories get the golden ticket. That includes the usual suspects like France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Australia, and Spain, plus smaller players like Andorra, Malta, and Liechtenstein — because why not?

Travelers from these countries can still enjoy 30 days visa-free for tourism, family visits, or business. Basically, if you’re popping in for a holiday, a meeting, or just a really good bowl of noodles, you’re good to go.

Oh, and Sweden’s in too

In a surprise twist, Sweden just got added to the VIP list starting November 10, 2025. So, Swedes can now enjoy China’s dumplings, dragons, and dazzling skylines without worrying about paperwork — at least until the end of 2026.

Given Sweden’s reputation for efficiency, we’re guessing they’ll be the first to show up, perfectly on time, with neatly packed luggage and an itinerary color-coded in Excel.

Tourism’s on the rise

According to China’s National Immigration Administration, 7.25 million foreigners entered the country under visa-free programs in the third quarter of 2025 — a whopping 48.3% increase from last year.

And get this: 72% of all foreign arrivals are now visa-free travelers. Clearly, the world has discovered that skipping embassy queues and complicated forms is the ultimate travel luxury.

Why this matters (beyond the dumplings)

For China, it’s not just about tourism — it’s about global connection. More visitors mean more business, more cultural exchanges, and yes, more selfies in front of the Forbidden City.

So, whether you’re in Paris dreaming of Peking duck or in Stockholm planning your next Great Wall hike, 2026 is officially your year to go visa-free in China.

Just remember: 30 days might sound like a lot… until you realize that’s only enough time to visit about 1% of what this country has to offer. Better start planning now — and maybe pack a second suitcase for all the souvenirs.
