Armenia Announces Temporary Visa Exemption for 113 Countries

Hold onto your passports, folks – Armenia just pulled off something pretty spectacular in the travel world. Starting January 1, 2026, and running through July 1, they're basically throwing open their doors to residents from 113 countries. But here's the twist: you don't need to be a citizen of these places – you just need to live somewhere fancy.

The Sweet Deal (With a Side of Requirements)

Picture this: you're living in New York with a green card, Dubai with an Emirates ID, or Berlin with your EU residence permit. Boom – you can now waltz into Armenia visa-free and hang out for up to 180 days within a year. That's basically six months of exploring ancient monasteries, munching on the world's best apricots, and soaking up some seriously underrated culture.

But (and there's always a but), your residence permit needs to have at least six months left on it when you arrive. Plus, it needs to be the real deal – a physical card or passport sticker with all your info in Latin characters, including your name, nationality, birthday, and expiration date. No blurry photos of your permit on your phone, thank you very much.

The eligible residence permits? Think big league: United States, all EU countries, Schengen Area nations, plus the Gulf heavyweights – UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Oman. Basically, if you've managed to get residency in any of these places, Armenia wants you to visit.

Who Made the Guest List?

The 113-country list reads like a geography teacher's fever dream. We're talking everywhere from Algeria to Zimbabwe, with stops at fascinating places like Bhutan, Madagascar, and even North Korea (though good luck getting that residence permit in the first place).

Canada's on there, which is cool for all those international residents up north. So are unexpected gems like Palau, Tuvalu, and the Solomon Islands. Armenia clearly did their homework and cast a wide net – they want visitors from literally everywhere.

Why Armenia's Doing This (Spoiler: It's Genius)

Lusine Gevorgyan from Armenia's Tourism Committee isn't being shy about their ambitions. She's basically saying, "Hey world, come check us out!" And honestly, it's about time more people discovered this hidden gem nestled between Europe and Asia.

Armenia's betting that making travel easier will boost their tourism numbers and put them on more people's travel maps. Smart move, considering they've got incredible ancient churches, stunning mountain landscapes, and a fascinating history that most people know nothing about.

If You Don't Qualify, Don't Panic

Not living in one of those fancy jurisdictions? Armenia's got you covered with their e-visa system. For just $8, you can get a 21-day visa, or splash out $38 for 120 days. The whole process happens online at evisa.mfa.am and takes about three business days. Not bad for what could be your next great adventure.

The Bottom Line

This temporary policy is Armenia's way of saying they're serious about tourism. It's bold, it's inclusive, and it recognizes that in our globally mobile world, where you live matters as much as where you're from. Whether you're planning a quick cultural immersion or a months-long exploration, Armenia just made it a whole lot easier to say yes to that trip you've been thinking about.
