AirAsia X Kuala Lumpur to London

AirAsia X Kuala Lumpur to London

AirAsia X Is Going Big: Kuala Lumpur to London… via Bahrain

AirAsia X has decided that “staying in your lane” is overrated.

The airline has announced a bold new long-haul service linking Kuala Lumpur, Bahrain and London Gatwick, launching on 26 June 2026 — and it’s not just another route. It’s a strategy.

For starters, Bahrain becomes AirAsia X’s first strategic hub outside Asia. That’s not a small move. That’s a “we’re thinking globally now” move.

Wait — Bahrain?

Yes, Bahrain.

AirAsia X has new flight routes that pass through Bahrain. Instead of a direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to London, passengers will now have to fly from KL to London via Bahrain, which will serve as a new layover point for Southeast Asia, Middle East and Europe flights.

Geographically, it makes sense. Operationally, it makes sense. And commercially? It opens up a lot of doors.

This is also AirAsia X’s second Fifth Freedom route. This means AirAsia X is allowed to sell tickets for flights between Bahrain and London. Meaning you could fly from KL to London via Bahrain without ever actually flying to Kuala Lumpur. That’s where things get interesting.

Low-Cost Long-Haul, But Make It Strategic

This isn’t just expansion for the sake of a flashy headline. It’s a clear step in AirAsia X’s ambition to compete more seriously in the global low-cost long-haul market.

By positioning Bahrain as a hub, the airline creates a bridge between Asia and Europe without needing to base aircraft across multiple continents. Smart, efficient and slightly disruptive — very on brand.

And it’s not just about passengers. The move also supports cargo and logistics operations under the wider Capital A umbrella, with Teleport (its logistics arm) making its first Bahrain arrival alongside the announcement.

So yes, this is aviation — but it’s also ecosystem thinking.

The Aircraft & The Fares (Because We’re All Wondering)

The route will be operated by AirAsia X’s Airbus A330 fleet, keeping costs efficient while maintaining long-haul capability.

To celebrate, the airline launched promotional fares starting from RM99 to Bahrain and RM199 to London. Premium flatbeds begin at RM2,999 — which, for a long-haul to London, will definitely raise a few eyebrows (in a good way).

The sale runs until 22 February 2026 for travel between late June and November, so yes — they’re serious about filling seats.

Bigger Than One Route

Zoom out and this feels like more than just a new service. It’s AirAsia X signalling that it’s ready to stretch beyond its traditional Asian stronghold and play on a broader stage.

With Kuala Lumpur already connecting to 95 destinations across 23 countries, adding a Middle East–Europe bridge strengthens the whole network — especially for travellers from Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Japan looking westward.

The Bottom Line

This Kuala Lumpur–Bahrain–London route isn’t cautious. It’s confident.

AirAsia X isn’t just adding a flight.
It’s building a bridge.
