Smartwings Boosts Spain and Italy Routes for Summer 2026

Smartwings looked at their summer 2026 bookings from Prague and apparently the message was extremely clear - people want Spain and Italy and they want it now. So the airline's responded by absolutely flooding the schedule with Southern European frequencies.

Starting March 29th, Málaga gets fourteen weekly flights. That's twice daily. To one Spanish city. Because seemingly half of Prague has decided the Costa del Sol is the only acceptable summer plan.

Barcelona, Valencia, and Rome all go daily which is the airline equivalent of saying "yeah these routes just print money at this point so why wouldn't we fly them every day."

Spain And Italy Are Doing The Heavy Lifting

The capacity boost isn't random. Spain and Italy consistently rank as Smartwings' most popular markets from Czech airports, and summer 2026 demand is apparently running hot enough to justify significant frequency increases.

Málaga specifically getting twice-daily service is interesting—it's not just a beach destination, it's also the gateway to the Costa del Sol resort strip. You've got Marbella, Torremolinos, all the package holiday infrastructure that's been perfected over decades. Smartwings clearly sees enough demand to justify 14 weekly rotations which is serious commitment to one city.

Barcelona and Valencia going daily makes sense too. Barcelona's Barcelona—consistently one of Europe's top city break destinations. Valencia's become increasingly popular as the "Barcelona but less crowded and cheaper" option. Both tick the boxes for what Czech travelers apparently want right now.

Rome's the same story. Daily flights because demand supports it and the Eternal City never really goes out of fashion as a destination.

The Bigger Network Picture

Beyond the Spain and Italy frequency boosts, Smartwings is operating to 80 destinations across 20 countries this summer from Czech airports. That's a properly substantial network for a carrier most people outside Central Europe have never heard of.

Greece leads the destination count which tracks—the Greek islands are basically mandatory summer tourism infrastructure at this point. Spain, Italy, and Portugal round out the top markets, all offering that reliable Mediterranean sunshine product Czech travelers are clearly buying in volume.

Easter's Also Driving Bookings

Smartwings is seeing strong demand around Easter for city breaks and island holidays. The Canaries, Madeira, the Azores—all those Atlantic island destinations that offer early-season sun when mainland Europe is still figuring out if winter's actually over.

Easter timing varies but it's typically that awkward period where people desperately want warmth but traditional summer destinations aren't quite in full swing yet. Atlantic islands solve that problem—reliably warm, already operating at capacity, perfect for the "I need vitamin D immediately" crowd.

Fare Strategy Covers Everyone

Smartwings is running the full spectrum from basic hand-luggage-only fares starting at CZK 2,150 (roughly €85) up to proper Business Class. That's the standard LCC playbook—get people in the door with cheap base fares then upsell everything else.

The entry price point is competitive enough to pull price-sensitive leisure travelers while the full-service options cater to business passengers or anyone who just wants a less stressful experience and will pay for it.

It's not revolutionary pricing strategy but it works, especially when you're operating routes with this much underlying demand.

What It Actually Means

Czech outbound travel is clearly in growth mode, and like most of Central and Eastern Europe, the preference is overwhelmingly for short-haul Mediterranean sun. Spain and Italy deliver that product reliably, at scale, with proven infrastructure.

Smartwings adding this much capacity—particularly the twice-daily Málaga service—signals they're not worried about filling planes. When airlines go daily or multiple-daily to leisure destinations, they've done the math and confirmed demand will support it.

For Prague-based travelers this mostly means more options and potentially better pricing as capacity increases. For Smartwings it means capitalizing on strong market conditions while they last.

Summer 2026 from Prague is looking very Spanish and Italian. Book accordingly.
