Direct Route from Munich to Rovaniemi

Direct Route from Munich to Rovaniemi

Just when you thought winter couldn’t get any more… committed, Lufthansa has decided to lean all the way in and expand its Arctic network for winter 2026/27.

Yes, while some people are googling “winter sun deals,” others are apparently saying, “You know what I need? More snow. Possibly reindeer.”

And Lufthansa is here to make that happen.

A New Route Straight Into Lapland

The headline act is a brand-new direct route from Munich to Rovaniemi, launching on 4th December 2026.

Twice a week, you’ll be whisked off on an Airbus A320neo straight into the heart of Lapland — aka the official hometown of Santa Claus, and unofficial capital of “wow, it’s really cold but also magical.”

It’s a smart move. Rovaniemi has quietly become one of those winter destinations people can’t stop talking about — think Northern Lights, snowy forests and the kind of scenery that makes your phone storage nervous.

Because One Snowy Destination Is Never Enough

Not content with just one icy upgrade, Lufthansa is also increasing flights to Tromsø from both Munich and Frankfurt.

Tromsø, for those not yet in the know, is basically the overachiever of Arctic travel. Northern Lights? Check. Dramatic fjords? Check. Cool factor? Very much check.

It’s the kind of place that turns a simple winter trip into a full-blown “I might become a different person after this” experience.

Extra Flights for Peak “Winter Wonderland” Season

Because February and March are when winter really shows off, Lufthansa is also adding seasonal flights to Rovaniemi, plus Kuusamo and Kittilä.

Translation: more chances to go dog sledding, chase the Northern Lights, and question your life choices while standing in -15°C… but in a good way.

It’s Not Just Lufthansa — It’s the Whole Gang

This isn’t a solo effort. Across the wider Lufthansa Group — including Austrian Airlines, Eurowings, Edelweiss Air and Discover Airlines — there will be up to 69 weekly flights heading to nine Arctic Circle airports.

That’s not a schedule. That’s a full-on northern migration.

So… Why Is Everyone Heading North?

Short answer: the Arctic is having a moment.

Longer answer: travellers are swapping predictable winter breaks for something a bit more dramatic. Snow-covered landscapes, unique experiences, fewer crowds and just enough adventure to make it interesting.

And cities like Tromsø are no longer “hidden gems” — they’re firmly on the map, with year-round appeal and serious travel buzz.

Cold, But Make It Popular

Lufthansa’s expansion isn’t just about adding flights — it’s about keeping up with demand.

Because it turns out, a lot of people are perfectly happy to trade sunshine for snow boots… as long as the experience is worth it.

And let’s be honest — watching the Northern Lights dance across the sky does beat another grey winter at home.
