British Airways increases Costa Rica Flights

British Airways increases Costa Rica Flights
There are two types of winter people: the ones who embrace it… and the ones who start looking at long-haul flights the second the temperature drops below 10°C.
If you’re in the second group, this will be of interest.
British Airways is increasing flights to Costa Rica for winter 2026/27 — up to five per week — and, perhaps more importantly, moving everything over to Heathrow Airport.
Which basically means getting there is about to feel a lot less like a mission.
Heathrow Instead of Gatwick (A Quiet Win)
This might not sound thrilling, but it is.
Heathrow just makes life easier. Better connections, less cross-city juggling, fewer “why did I book it like this?” moments before a long-haul flight.
It’s one of those changes you don’t celebrate — but you definitely appreciate at 6am with a coffee in hand.

Costa Rica Is Not a “Sit Still” Kind of Place
Some destinations are for doing nothing. Costa Rica is not one of them.
You can try, of course. Book a nice hotel, sit by the pool, order something cold and tell yourself you’re going to relax.
And then someone mentions volcano hikes. Or zip-lining. Or a beach that’s “just 20 minutes away” (it won’t be, but you’ll go anyway).
Before you know it, you’re fully involved.

It’s the Kind of Place That Gets Under Your Skin
People come back from Costa Rica slightly different.
Not dramatically. You’re not quitting your job and moving into the jungle. But there’s a shift — slower pace, more time outdoors, less urgency about… everything.
That whole “Pura Vida” thing sounds like marketing until you’re there, and then it sort of makes sense.
Nature, But Properly Impressive
This isn’t just “a bit green.”
We’re talking rainforests that feel like they’ve been turned up to full volume, wildlife that appears when you’re not even looking for it, and beaches that don’t need filters.
Sloths, monkeys, tropical birds — all doing their thing while you try to casually act like this is normal.
It isn’t.
You Can Feel Slightly Virtuous About It Too
Costa Rica has been doing the eco-tourism thing for years, long before it became a buzzword.
Protected areas, conservation efforts, sustainable tourism — it’s all part of the experience, not an afterthought.
So yes, you’re on holiday. But it’s the kind where you can tell yourself you made a good choice as well.
Timing That Makes a Lot of Sense
These extra flights run from October through March — which, coincidentally, is exactly when the UK starts to feel like one long grey afternoon.
Five flights a week gives you options. Flexibility. The ability to say “let’s just go” without needing a spreadsheet to plan it.
And once you’re there, it’s pretty clear you made the right call.
Because swapping cold, dark mornings for rainforest walks and ocean air isn’t exactly a difficult adjustment.
