EasyJet Opens Marrakech Base (And Morocco Just Got Even Easier to Love)

EasyJet Opens Marrakech Base (And Morocco Just Got Even Easier to Love)
Well, this feels like a bit of a moment. easyJet has officially opened its first-ever African base in Marrakech — and honestly, it makes perfect sense.
Because if you’re going to plant a flag somewhere, you may as well pick a destination that already does half the marketing for you.

A Base With Serious Intent (Not Just a Casual Drop-In)
This isn’t a “let’s test the waters” situation. easyJet is going all in, with three aircraft based in Marrakech, supporting around 100 direct jobs (and plenty more indirectly). Not bad for a city better known for mint tea and maze-like souks.
The move comes in partnership with the Moroccan National Tourist Office, which is essentially Morocco saying, “Yes, please — bring more visitors.”
And bring them they will. The new setup allows for up to 4 million seats annually, which is less “quiet expansion” and more “we’ve arrived.”

New Routes, Because One Way In Is Never Enough
To make things even more interesting, easyJet is rolling out six new routes for winter 2026/27, giving travellers even more excuses to skip the cold and head south.
Marrakech gets new links from Prague, Newcastle and Zurich (already on sale), while other parts of Morocco join the party too — with routes like Nantes–Essaouira, Bordeaux–Agadir and Birmingham–Agadir launching soon.
And in a move that frequent travellers will appreciate, several existing routes — including Lille, Strasbourg and Hamburg — are going year-round. Because apparently, Morocco isn’t just a winter fling anymore.
Morocco’s Glow-Up Continues
easyJet now serves five Moroccan airports — Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, Essaouira and Tangier — and has already flown over 20 million passengers to and from the country since 2006.
So yes, this expansion is impressive. But it’s also part of a bigger picture.
Morocco has been quietly (and now not-so-quietly) building its reputation as a go-to destination for European travellers. And with easyJet doubling down, that reputation is getting a serious upgrade.
More Than Just Sunshine and Souks
There’s also a smart business angle here. With better connectivity comes more opportunity — not just for leisure travellers, but for groups, events and incentives looking for something a little different.
Because Marrakech isn’t just beautiful — it’s memorable. And in a world full of “been there, done that” destinations, that counts for a lot.
As CEO Kenton Jarvis puts it, the new base is a “milestone” — boosting connectivity, tourism and local growth.
