Morocco Abolishes AEVM Application for Malians

Heading to Morocco has become a little easier for Malians. As of April 27, 2026, Morocco Abolishes AEVM Application for Malian nationals.

The announcement was made after a meeting with Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdoulaye Diop, by Morocco’s Minister, Nasser Bourita, on April 10 in Bamako. Mali’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the date after they received formal notice from Moroccan authorities on April 23. Shortly after, the Moroccan Embassy in Bamako confirmed this change in a notice.

The AEVM

The AEVM application was, in a sense, a digital placeholder between an actual visa stamp and no application at all. Certain nationalities who traveled to Morocco did not require a visa stamp but were still required to complete the AEVM application.

Malians no longer have to complete this application.

What is Actually Different?

Starting April 27, Malians traveling to Morocco no longer need to apply or obtain an AEVM. They simply must fulfill standard entry requirements of a legitimate travel document and must be in compliance with Morocco’s customs. With the removal of the pre-departure requirement, all obstacles placed before the decision to travel to Morocco have been eliminated. This makes Morocco a seamless travel destination.

When the AEVM Still Applies

With Mali out, the AEVM has an even smaller scope. As of April 27, only nationals from Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Ghana, and Guinea are still subject to the AEVM for travel to Morocco.

Also noteworthy is that the AEVM was temporarily expanded to include nationals from Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gabon, Niger, Senegal, Togo, and Tunisia. This was as a result of Morocco hosting the Africa Cup of Nations, for the period of September 2025 to January 2026. This was a tournament related, temporary adjustment, and not a permanent amendment.

With regards to Visa-Required Nationalities

Those who are required to have a Visa to enter Morocco have to be of a category of its own, and can obtain a Morocco e-Visa by going to acces-maroc.ma. This system is now extended to include the nationals of Azerbaijan, Benin, Guatemala, India, Israel, Jordan, and Thailand, and travelers who, regardless of their nationality, are required to have a visa to enter Morocco. They must hold a valid visa or a residence permit from certain named countries.

The e-Visa is valid for one entry only, with a stay of up to 30 days, and can be extended for an additional 30 days maximum. The system offers various types of applications. However, there is 24 hours and 72 hours processing time for the express and regular applications, respectively.

Wider Implications

With trade and the movement of people across borders becoming more fluid, both govts have stated that Malians now have easier access to Morocco, while the AEVM gets shorter.
