British Airways to Lapland: Santa's Home Just Got a Direct Flight

A new Gatwick–Rovaniemi winter route means Finnish Lapland is officially open for incentive business. Reindeer optional. Magic is not.

There are destinations that sound wonderful in a meeting and destinations that actually deliver. Finnish Lapland is rare: it does both.

And from 4 December 2026, British Airways Euroflyer will connect London Gatwick directly to Rovaniemi — the capital of Finnish Lapland and the official hometown of Father Christmas — twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays.

For incentive planners who've been watching Lapland sell out from under them via indirect routings, this is the schedule change you've been waiting for.

Why Lapland Works for Incentive and Corporate Groups

Let's start with the obvious: Lapland is one of the few destinations where the environment itself does half your program design work. Snow-blanketed forests, frozen lakes, the Northern Lights dancing in silence above a glass-roofed lodge — these aren't backdrops.

They're experiences in their own right, before you've added a single structured activity.

That said, the structured activities here are exceptional. Husky sledding through ancient forests at sunrise. Snowmobile expeditions across frozen wilderness. Ice fishing on a lake that was a road six months ago. Private Northern Lights chases led by guides who know exactly where to position a group for maximum effect and minimum crowd.

For senior leadership programs, Lapland delivers something that beach resorts and city hotels simply cannot: genuine stillness.

There's a reason high-achieving executives come back from Arctic retreats talking about clarity and perspective. It's very hard to be on your phone when you're standing in a blizzard watching the aurora.

Rovaniemi: More Than Just the Big Man in Red

Yes, Santa Claus Village is in Rovaniemi, and yes, it's surprisingly good fun for corporate groups who thought they were above it. But the destination offers far more depth than a novelty photo with an elf.

Rovaniemi is a design city — rebuilt after World War II by Alvar Aalto in the shape of a reindeer, which you'll only see from above, but still.

The Arktikum museum offers compelling programming for groups interested in Arctic science and indigenous Sámi culture. Fine dining has arrived in the Arctic in earnest, with restaurants serving reindeer, Arctic char, and cloudberries in settings that would hold their own anywhere in Europe.

For gala dinners, the options are extraordinary: inside a glass igloo, inside an actual ice hall, or in a lakeside venue where the only sound is the fire and the wind.

Direct Access Changes the Calculus

Until now, routing groups to Rovaniemi from the UK involved connections through Helsinki or Stockholm — workable, but an extra operational variable that added cost, risk, and time to programs already crammed with magic. Direct from Gatwick changes that. A Monday or Friday departure slots neatly into a three- or four-night programme without burning weekend days.

Your DMC partner in Finnish Lapland manages the access that matters: private lodge buyouts, exclusive snowmobile trails, Sámi cultural hosts who share traditions rather than perform them, and the expertise to read the skies and reposition a group when the aurora decides to show.
