Your Passport Is Either Working Hard or Hardly Working in 2026

The Henley Passport Index June update is out — and for incentive planners, it's basically a cheat sheet for frictionless group travel.

The World's Most Valuable Accessory Isn't What You Think

Nobody hangs their passport photo above the fireplace. But in 2026, that little booklet is doing more heavy lifting than a five-star concierge — and if you're designing incentive programmes for globally mobile workforces, the Henley Passport Index isn't just interesting reading. It's strategic intelligence disguised as a league table.

The June 2026 edition is out, and the headlines are crisp: Singapore remains the undisputed champion of global mobility, with access to 192 destinations without a visa obtained in advance. Behind it, Japan, South Korea, and — in a result that continues to turn heads — the United Arab Emirates share second place, each unlocking 188 destinations. Sweden holds third at 187, keeping Scandinavia firmly in the conversation.

Then comes the European brigade, in force and unapologetic about it.

Your Passport Is Either Working Hard

The June 2026 Top 10 — In Full

Here's where the world's passports stand right now:

Rank                                   Passport                                                                                   Visa-Free Destinations

2                                           Japan, South Korea, United Arab Emirates                                   188

3                                           Sweden                                                                                                             187

4                                          Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany,

                                             Norway, Spain                                                                                               186

5                                          Austria, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Switzerland                              185

6                                          Hungary, Poland, United Kingdom                                                      184

7                                          Australia, Canada, Czechia, Latvia, Malaysia,

                                            New Zealand, Slovakia, Slovenia                                                         183

8                                          Croatia, Estonia                                                                                           182

9                                          Liechtenstein, Lithuania                                                                         181

10                                        Iceland, United States                                                                              180

The gap between the top and bottom of the full index remains sobering. Afghanistan ranks last globally with access to just 23 destinations, while Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, and Yemen sit just above it, ranging from 26 to 31 destinations. A useful reminder that passport privilege is neither universal nor evenly distributed — and a planning consideration for truly international delegate groups.

Why Planners Should Be Reading This Like a Business Report

Here's the thing about passport power: it's not just about who needs a visa. It's about who gets delayed, who arrives stressed, and whose first impression of your carefully crafted program is a queue at immigration.

When you're moving 150 top performers from eight different countries to a single incentive destination, the visa eligibility landscape can quietly make or break the experience before it's even begun. A destination that's frictionless for your French and German delegates at 186 destinations might still require advance applications for others in the group — and the last thing any programme director wants is a frantic email three weeks before departure asking "do I need a visa for this?"

The smartest planners use the Henley Index to design inclusively — selecting destinations that sit within the visa-free reach of the majority of attendees, or flagging early where additional consular support will be needed.

So Where Should the World's Most Mobile Groups Be Heading?

With top passport holders enjoying near-universal access, the playing field for aspirational incentive destinations has never been wider. Southeast Asia continues to punch above its weight — Singapore's top ranking reflects a region that takes international connectivity seriously. The Middle East, with the UAE now firmly in second place, signals that Gulf destinations are no longer a niche choice; they are a headline act.

Europe, naturally, remains the gold standard for variety, culture, and logistical elegance. Whether your group is chasing Michelin-starred dinners in San Sebastián, private vineyard evenings in Tuscany, or a Nordic wilderness escape in Norway, the continent's passport dominance mirrors its enduring appeal as the world's favourite incentive canvas.
