Sardinia and the Cinque Terre: Discover Airlines Adds Two Italian Gems

Sardinia and the Cinque Terre: Discover Airlines Adds Two Italian Gems
Munich gains Alghero, Frankfurt gains Genoa, and Discover's Italy network grows to four destinations. Coastal incentive planners, this one is for you.
There is a moment in every pitch where you say the destination out loud. "Alghero" lands very differently from the usual suspects.
Discover Airlines is expanding its Italy program for summer 2027. Munich gains Alghero, and Frankfurt gains Genoa.
Both are the only direct connections from those German airports. They join existing services from Frankfurt to Bari and Brindisi.
Airbus A320 aircraft operates all routes. The Italy program grows to up to ten weekly flights across four destinations.
The Schedule
Frankfurt to Genoa starts 28 March 2027, twice weekly on Saturdays and Sundays. Munich to Alghero follows on 4 June 2027, twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays.
Brindisi also gains frequency, rising from two to three weekly flights in summer 2027. Bari continues with three weekly summer services, as it has since April 2022.
Alghero expands the Lufthansa Group's Sardinia portfolio from Munich. It joins Olbia and Cagliari, opening up the northwestern part of the island.
The Genoa route forms part of a strategic partnership with Costa Cruises. Costa takes a fixed share of seats for cruise passengers.
Booking is open at discover-airlines.com, lufthansa.com, and through German tour operators and travel agencies.
Why Planners Should Care
Weekend-only Genoa service is quietly perfect. Saturday out, Sunday back, with a Saturday-to-Saturday week available for longer programs.
That Costa partnership is worth noting for a different reason. Seat inventory is shared, so group space needs securing early rather than assumed.
Alghero's Monday and Friday pattern gives you a four-night or three-night structure. Monday to Friday suits a full incentive week with a business day attached.
Two German hubs also help multi-office groups converge without complex routings. Frankfurt and Munich between them cover most European assembly points.

Alghero: Sardinia's Catalan Corner
Alghero is the surprise most planners have not used. The old town carries Catalan heritage from centuries of Aragonese rule, and the local language reflects it.
Honey-coloured sea walls wrap around a harbour lined with palm trees. Sunset aperitivo on the ramparts is an easy opening night.
Beyond the town, northwest Sardinia delivers seriously good terrain. Capo Caccia's limestone cliffs drop into clear water, with Neptune's Grotto reached by boat or a stairway carved into the rock.
The Costa Smeralda sits within driving distance for higher-end programs. Closer by, Bosa, Stintino and La Pelosa beach handle beach day requirements beautifully.
Food is a strong suit. Lobster Alghero-style, bottarga, suckling pig cooked over myrtle wood, and Vermentino from the hills behind town.
Activity options cover most briefs. Sailing charters, sea kayaking along the coast, and vineyard lunches at family estates.

Genoa: The Gateway With Two Famous Neighbours
Genoa is an underrated city with serious presence. Europe's largest medieval old town, a working port, and palaces on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The Palazzi dei Rolli were once obliged to host visiting dignitaries. They still host beautifully, and several open for private events.
The real pull is proximity. Genoa is an ideal starting point for the Cinque Terre and Portofino.
Portofino delivers pastel harbour houses and yacht charters that need no explanation. The Cinque Terre gives you five cliffside villages linked by coastal paths and a rail line.
Add pesto-making classes in its birthplace, focaccia tasting trails, and boat transfers between villages. Santa Margherita Ligure and Camogli provide quieter alternatives for group bases.

Your DMC Is the Difference
Cinque Terre logistics reward local expertise more than almost anywhere. Access limits, transfer timings and village capacity all shape whether your day works.
Palace hire in Genoa, grotto access near Alghero and vineyard buyouts all run on relationships. Portofino berthing is its own negotiation entirely.
Let our destination partners turn ten weekly flights into an Italian coastal program your delegates never stop describing.
