Yerevan Gets a Fourth Aircraft: Wizz Air Doubles Down on Armenia

Three new routes, higher frequencies and an 18-route Armenian network. Wizz Air is also restoring 12 Europe to Middle East services this winter.

Basing an aircraft somewhere is the strongest signal an airline can send. Wizz Air is about to base its fourth in Yerevan.

The carrier is expanding its Armenian network for winter 2026/27. Three new routes join the schedule.

Basel begins three times weekly from 18 December. Valencia follows twice weekly from 19 December. Varna arrives on 6 June 2027.

That takes Wizz Air's Armenian network to 18 routes across 12 European countries.

The Capacity Behind It

Frequencies also increase from 17 December. Yerevan to Prague rises to five weekly flights, and Yerevan to Memmingen goes to four.

The third Yerevan-based aircraft arrives in October. The fourth follows in December.

Separately, the carrier is restoring links from nine European cities to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Jeddah and Amman. That follows revised EASA conflict-zone guidance and the airline's own security assessments.

The program provides 470,000 seats across 49 weekly flights. Larnaca to Abu Dhabi resumes three times weekly from 27 October.

Routes from Budapest, Bucharest, Cluj, Kraków, Katowice and Sofia also restart. Services from Budapest, Milan and Rome to Amman or Jeddah resumed in September.

All Middle East flights remain subject to continuing operational and security assessments. Wizz Air operates around 270 aircraft, mainly Airbus A321neos, and expects to approach 100 million annual passengers.

Why Planners Should Care

Based aircraft change the reliability calculation. Local basing means early departures, late returns and better recovery when something slips.

Eighteen routes across 12 countries makes Armenia genuinely viable for pan-European groups. Qualifiers from Switzerland, Spain, Czechia, Germany and Bulgaria can all reach Yerevan directly.

That is unusual for a destination of this size. It removes the multi-connection problem that has kept Armenia off shortlists.

Frequency increases to Prague and Memmingen help too. Five weekly to Prague supports staggered arrivals for larger groups.

The Middle East restoration matters separately. Planners with Gulf programs gain value-led access from Central and Eastern European gateways.

Yerevan: Capital of Armenia

Yerevan is built largely from local pink tuff, which turns gold as the sun drops across Republic Square. Mount Ararat sits on the horizon behind the city.

The Cascade Complex rises in terraced garden steps, dotted with sculpture. As an evening reception space, it does most of the work unassisted.

Armenia claims one of the world's oldest winemaking traditions. The Areni region backs that up with a cave winery dated to around 6,100 years old.

A private tasting there is a proper talking point. Add Areni noir poured by the family who made it and your group remembers the evening.

Geghard Monastery is partly carved into rock, and its acoustics turn choral performance into something close to hypnotic. Garni Temple sits nearby in a dramatic gorge.

The food deserves attention. Lavash baked in a tonir oven, apricots, herbs by the handful, and brandy with a famous admirer in Churchill.

Beyond the capital, Lake Sevan offers mountain water at altitude. Dilijan brings forested hills, and Tatev delivers the world's longest reversible cable car ride to a clifftop monastery.

Your DMC Is the Difference

Monastery access, cave-cellar tastings and private performances all come through relationships. None appear on booking platforms.

Mountain road timings and seasonal access also need local judgement. Winter programs in particular reward someone who knows the passes.

Let our destination partners turn a fourth based aircraft into the program your delegates quote back to you.
