Niš Opens Up: Air Serbia Adds Vienna and Malta From Southern Serbia

Twice-weekly flights to two very different European destinations begin 25 October, giving planners a new southern Serbian gateway to work with.

Secondary airports rarely get headlines. They often deliver the tidiest logistics.

Air Serbia will operate direct flights between Niš and Vienna, and between Niš and Malta, from 25 October 2026. Both routes run twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Sundays.

The services connect southern Serbia directly with two important European destinations. Both operate from Niš Constantine the Great Airport.

Jiří Marek, CEO of Air Serbia, framed the launch around passenger needs and network development. He described the aim as reliable, high-quality direct connections for Niš and the wider region.

Why These Two Destinations

Vienna is one of Europe's most important business, administrative and cultural centres. Serbia and Austria hold strong historical, economic and familial ties.

Malta is an attractive year-round destination, with rich cultural and historical heritage alongside a Mediterranean climate. Its tourism offering is well developed.

Malta also serves business travel, education, and a substantial Serbian community living and working there. Both destinations therefore carry dual-purpose demand.

Why Planners Should Care

Wednesday and Sunday operation creates two program shapes. Wednesday to Sunday gives you four nights, and Sunday to Wednesday gives you three.

Both are workable incentive lengths without wasted travel days. The schedule essentially designs your itinerary.

Niš also functions as a collection point for a wide catchment. Southern Serbia, and the broader region around it, now assembles without transferring through Belgrade.

Smaller airports move groups faster. Check-in, security and arrival processing at Niš will be considerably quicker than at a major hub.

For planners already using Serbia, this adds a second entry point. A Belgrade-plus-Niš program becomes logistically simpler to build.

Southern Serbia Deserves a Look

While we are here, Niš itself merits attention. The city is one of Europe's oldest, birthplace of Emperor Constantine the Great.

Niš Fortress, Ottoman-era remains and a strong grill tradition make for a substantial evening program. The nearby Sićevo Gorge and Niška Banja spa add range.

Serbian hospitality takes welcome seriously, and groups feel that quickly. Kafana dining with live music is an experience that converts sceptics fast.

Vienna: Imperial Scale

Vienna hands you spectacular palaces, world-class museums and classical music at a standard few cities can match. Schönbrunn and the Hofburg are venues most planners only imagine.

Coffee house culture works as a program element. Marble tables, Sacher torte, and service that refuses to be rushed.

Add a private concert in a historic hall, a Spanish Riding School demonstration, and Christmas markets in season. Wine taverns in the city's own vineyards close the evening well.

Malta: Compact and Cinematic

Malta packs an astonishing amount into a small footprint. Valletta is a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Knights of St John.

Fort St Angelo, the Three Cities and Mdina's silent walled streets all serve as group venues with real atmosphere. Boat transfers across the Grand Harbour make arrivals memorable.

Gozo offers a slower pace, with salt pans, cliffs and diving sites. Year-round climate makes shoulder-season programs entirely viable.

Food leans Mediterranean with Sicilian and North African influence. Rabbit stew, fresh fish, and wine from surprisingly good local producers.

Your DMC Is the Difference

Palace hire in Vienna and fortress access in Malta both run on relationships and long lead times. So does Grand Harbour boat coordination for a full group.

Niš logistics also reward local knowledge, particularly for regional transfers and countryside venues.

Let our destination partners turn two weekly flights into a program your delegates keep describing.
