Passport Control Comes to You: Dubai Launches Click and Travel
Officers with connected mobile devices can now complete entry and departure formalities in 12 to 15 seconds, wherever passengers are standing.
Group arrivals have one predictable pinch point. Ninety delegates, one queue, and a welcome reception losing an hour.
Dubai has just addressed it in an unusual way. On 7 September 2026, GDRFA Dubai launched Click and Travel.
Authorities describe it as the world's first mobile system allowing border control officers to complete entry and departure procedures directly where passengers are located. The UAE's WAM news agency confirmed the launch officially.
How It Works
GDRFA officers carry mobile devices connected to Dubai's immigration systems and databases. Those devices allow secure access to traveller information.
Officers verify identity using biometrics and complete entry or departure procedures on the spot. The whole process takes approximately 12 to 15 seconds.
This is not simply a new automated checkpoint. Immigration officers themselves can now carry out checks away from fixed passport control stations.
The system is designed for periods of heavy passenger traffic. It also suits situations where border control teams need rapid deployment across terminals.
GDRFA says the added mobility should improve staff allocation and reduce bottlenecks. It also allows operations to respond faster to changing passenger flows.
The Pilot Numbers
Click and Travel was tested before official launch. A pilot ran from May through 31 August 2026.
During that period, 31,373 entry and departure procedures were processed using the mobile system.
Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Dubai, described a shift from improving procedures to rethinking the passenger experience. He said people sit at the heart of the development process.
He noted the completed procedures demonstrate operational readiness and pave the way for gradual expansion.
The Scope, Honestly Stated
Coverage differs by direction. For departures, all passengers can use Click and Travel, including UAE citizens, residents and international visitors.
Arrivals are more limited in the first phase. It currently applies only to UAE citizens and UAE residents.
International visitors arriving in Dubai are therefore not yet included. GDRFA plans gradual expansion based on operational needs.
Why Planners Should Care
Departures are where this helps you immediately. A large group heading home is exactly the scenario mobile processing is built for.
Officers can work the group where it stands rather than funnelling everyone through fixed counters. That protects your airport timeline on a departure day.
Arrival coverage for international visitors will matter more when it arrives. Track it, because group arrival processing is the harder problem.
GDRFA is also studying additional traveller services beyond immigration processing. That sits within Dubai's broader push toward smarter airports and less dependence on fixed infrastructure.
The signal is what counts. Dubai keeps removing friction, which is precisely why it remains a default choice for large programs.
Dubai as the Program, Not the Layover
Dubai's incentive credentials need little defence. Hotel capacity, event infrastructure and experienced ground teams sit among the strongest anywhere.
Desert programs remain the signature. Dune driving, falconry displays, camel arrivals and dinner under lanterns in a private camp.
The city side delivers scale. Burj Khalifa observation decks, Museum of the Future, and dhow charters across Dubai Creek.
Water adds another layer. Yacht charters past the Palm, seaplane transfers and beach club buyouts all handle sizeable groups.
For something quieter, Al Fahidi historic district and the Alserkal Avenue arts quarter give you texture. Old Dubai souks make an outstanding team activity setting.
Dining spans everything from rooftop tasting menus to Emirati home-cooking experiences. Venue choice is rarely the constraint here.

Your DMC Is the Difference
Desert camp exclusivity, yacht fleet coordination and observation deck buyouts all move through relationships. So does managing a 300-person arrival across multiple flights.
Ground partners also handle the airport liaison that turns a smooth system into a smooth experience.
Let our destination partners build a Dubai program that matches the efficiency of the border.
