Safari Then Sand: British Airways Flies Gatwick to Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar

The perfect incentive trip has a plot. Adventure first, reward second, and a flight home that nobody wants to board.

British Airways has just written that plot for you. From 29 May 2027, the airline flies London Gatwick to Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar.

Flights operate three times weekly on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The season runs until 31 October 2027, lining up neatly with peak safari months.

Economy fares start from £849 return, including taxes, fees and a generous hand baggage allowance.

How the Triangle Works

BA2163 departs Gatwick at 09:05 and lands in Kilimanjaro at 20:20. After an hour on the ground, it continues to Zanzibar, arriving at 22:25.

The return leaves Zanzibar at 00:25 on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. It lands back at Gatwick at 07:55.

A Boeing 777 operates the route with three cabins. Club World, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller give you flexible tiering across a mixed group.

Why Planners Should Care

Triangle routing is the quiet genius here. Groups fly into Kilimanjaro for safari, then fly home from Zanzibar after the beach.

That removes the internal flight between mainland and island, which has always been a logistics puzzle. One ticket covers the whole arc.

Three weekly departures create natural program shapes. Monday to Friday, Thursday to Tuesday, or Saturday to Sunday all work cleanly.

Mixed-cabin aircraft solves the tiering question too. Top performers in Club World, the wider group in World Traveller Plus.

Neil Chernoff, Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, described the routes as showcasing the very best of Tanzania. It is hard to argue.

Kilimanjaro: Gateway to the Northern Circuit

Kilimanjaro Airport opens Tanzania's Northern Safari Circuit, one of Africa's most famous wildlife routes. The options are staggering for a single gateway.

The Serengeti hosts the Great Migration, one of the planet's great natural sights. Timing a program around river crossings is a masterstroke if you can pull it off.

Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the Big Five. Descending into the caldera at dawn is a memory delegates carry for life.

Tarangire National Park is known for huge elephant herds and ancient baobabs. Lake Manyara adds flamingos, forest and dramatic escarpment views.

Mount Kilimanjaro itself spans five climate zones, from rainforest to snow-capped summit. A full climb suits a dedicated adventure cohort, while guided foothill walks suit everyone else.

Luxury lodges and tented camps across the circuit deliver bush dinners under lanterns, sundowners on the kopjes, and hot-air balloon flights over the plains.

Zanzibar: The Reward Leg

Zanzibar handles the second half beautifully. White sand, warm Indian Ocean water, and a pace that resets everyone.

Stone Town is UNESCO-listed, with carved wooden doors, spice markets and rooftop restaurants at sunset. A guided evening walk followed by dinner above the rooftops is a strong closing night.

Spice plantation tours give the island its nickname and make a gentle group activity. Dhow sailing at dusk, snorkelling coral reefs and diving the Mnemba Atoll add sea-based options.

Beachfront resorts deliver villa buyouts, spa programs and private beach dinners. British Airways Holidays is already pairing flights with the five-star LUX* Marijani.

Your DMC Is the Difference

Migration timing, crater permits and camp allocations need expert hands. The best lodges book out well ahead for peak season.

Island buyouts, dhow charters and Stone Town venue access all depend on local relationships. So does moving a group smoothly between circuit and coast.

Let our destination partners turn a triangle route into the safari-and-sand program your delegates never stop describing.
