Travel Excellence is one of our top DMCs when it comes to sustainability. Costa Rica has a strong sustainability certification for DMCs since 2007, and as well as other certifications such as the Carbon Neutral. 

Travel Excellence:

Our environmental footprint is always a management criterion to make daily basis decisions. Based on this Managing Policy scope, the company has established and maintained certain policies on resources management and sustainable promotion.

Travel Excellence trains all the new staff on the environmentally friendly practices, such as efficient use of energy. The company has enforced these practices among the years. Even though we are already very efficient, in the period 2014-2017 we were able to decrease our energy consumption by 14.6%.

As with electric energy, the whole staff is aware of the practices required for water rational use.  From 2014 to 2017 Travel Excellence reduced its water consumption by 14.6%.

Integral Waste Management

Travel Excellence has a permanent recycling program since 2007. Recycling storage centre at Travel Excellence receives eight types of materials: plastic, newspaper and office paper, carton, aluminium, glass, batteries and tetra pack. IT Department also stocks all the electronic waste material. This program has been successful enough to get some of the staff to transport their own residential recyclable material to Travel Excellence’s recycling centre.

Although we do not have full control on it, we also take into consideration the waste produced during our itineraries. Our water bottles are Oxo-biodegradable, which means that they are going to be processed by any wasteland much quicker than a regular bottle (from hundreds of years to just a few). We encourage passengers to refill their bottles at hotels or other reliable water sources – the water of Costa Rican distribution systems is drinkable in most of the national territory.

Other waste sources are controlled by having a recycling bag in all of our fleet units so that passengers have facilities to separate recyclable items from ordinary waste. Drivers are responsible of disposing this waste either at our headquarters or at any hotel with recycling programs.

This rewarding activity will conquer all hearts and leave a memorable gift for students at a school in need. The group will be divided into teams of max. 4-5 people. 

Each team will have to answer several questions, made by our staff and resolve several small challenges. Each challenge that is achieved and each correct answer will be rewarded with a tool or a piece that will later help ensemble the bicyle. 

Each team will be provided a guide with instructions on how to build the bicycle so they can start the assembly as soon as possible. 

The bicycles will be checked at the security station to make sure that they were all built correctly and work properly.

Once the revisions are made and the bicycles are ready, each team will be donating the bicycles to a student of a, previously chosen school. 

We support annually Amigos de los Parques Nacionales (Friends of National Parks, a ProParques Foundation program).

Travel Excellence is a founding Tropical Forest Partner, participating not only at the top category of economic support, but also with volunteering of Travel Excellence’s staff in National Parks. ProParques bolsters the National Parks by improving the living and work conditions for National Parks Rangers, and with training and infrastructure for the tourist experience.

Our staff has had volunteering journeys in Arenal Volcano National Park and Braulio Carrillo National Park. Recently, we had a trail maintainance journey at Poas Volcano National Park (Central Valley, 2018), which was closed for several previous months due to volcanic activity.
