Gladmat Food Festival 2027

Gladmat Food Festival 2027 – Stavanger Sets the Table Again. Come Hungry.
Dates taking place: June 2027 (exact dates to be announced)
Location: Stavanger, Norway
Some festivals you attend once out of curiosity. Gladmat is the one you come back to out of something closer to loyalty — a deep, food-induced loyalty to a waterfront, a city and four days of eating that have a habit of recalibrating your standards for what a good meal, a good festival and a good reason to travel actually look like.
Gladmat Food Festival 2027 returns to Stavanger's harbour in late June. One of Scandinavia's largest food festivals, running since 1999, showing absolutely no signs of running out of ideas, appetite or excellent Norwegian seafood. Several hundred thousand people will show up. They will eat well. They will wander the waterfront stalls at a great food festival.
If you went in 2026, you already know why you're reading this. If you didn't, the short version is: Stavanger, summer, waterfront, extraordinary food, chefs on stage, Norwegian produce at its finest and the kind of atmosphere that makes four days feel like not quite enough.
The Waterfront, the Stalls, the Same Glorious Problem
Vågen — Stavanger's old harbour — returns as the festival's centre of gravity in 2027, which is the right decision because it was the right decision in every previous year and the waterfront has not done anything to deserve being replaced. Stalls stretch along the quayside in both directions. Chefs, producers, artisan makers and street food vendors from across Norway and well beyond set up with the confident energy of people who know they are part of something worth attending.
The Norwegian seafood is, once again, the backbone and the headline. Salmon, cod, king crab, shellfish handled with a familiarity that comes from proximity to some of the world's finest coastline and a national relationship with fish that predates the festival by several centuries. Eaten here, in this setting, in this season, it tastes better than it has any right to — which is saying something given that it already had a very high baseline.
Around the seafood, everything else. International stalls, fusion dishes, experimental combinations, the artisan cheese that stops you mid-stride and the street food that requires both hands and a complete absence of self-consciousness. The best discoveries at Gladmat are always the unplanned ones. Arrive with an open mind and an empty stomach. Abandon any remaining plan within the first twenty minutes. This is the correct strategy.

The Chefs Are Back on Stage
The cooking demonstrations at Gladmat 2027 will again bring Norwegian culinary talent — and a selection of international names — to the waterfront stages for the kind of live access that professional food events charge considerably more to deliver. Watching a chef work in a festival setting, in front of a crowd that is both enthusiastic and well-fed, has a spontaneity that a classroom cannot replicate.
Questions get answered. Techniques get demonstrated with the kind of generosity that comes from genuine passion rather than obligation. Results get tasted. The crowd, already in an excellent mood, gets better. This is how food festivals should work and Gladmat has understood that since 1999.
Stavanger in Summer, Still Making the Case
Late June in Stavanger is summer at its most cooperative — long days, mild temperatures and the easy quality of Norwegian light that makes the old town's white wooden houses look like something from a painting and the harbour look like somewhere you'd happily spend the rest of the afternoon.
Gamle Stavanger — the old town — is still one of the best preserved historic districts in Norway. The cathedral is still twelfth century. Preikestolen is still a vertiginous clifftop above the Lysefjord and still one of the most remarkable natural viewpoints in Europe, accessible by a day hike that rewards the effort with the kind of view that justifies the hiking boots entirely.
The city around the festival is, in short, exactly as good as it was in 2026. Which was very good indeed.
For Travel Professionals: Still One of the Easiest Itineraries to Build
For DMCs, incentive planners and culinary travel specialists, Gladmat Food Festival 2027 remains what it has always been — a large, well-established, genuinely excellent food festival in a beautiful and accessible Norwegian city, at the time of year when that city is at its most appealing and the fjords nearby are at their most dramatic.
Food tourism continues to grow as a travel motivation and Gladmat sits confidently at the quality end of that market. For groups with a shared interest in food, it is close to perfect. For groups without one, four days of exceptional eating in Stavanger tends to create the interest fairly efficiently. Either way, the festival does the heavy lifting.
Pair it with Preikestolen for the day trip that gives everyone a story about the time they stood on a cliff edge above a fjord. Add Bergen and the coastal fjords for a broader Norwegian journey that moves between extraordinary landscapes and one of Scandinavia's finest food events. Or simply come to Stavanger, eat very well for four days and go home satisfied in every sense.
The table is set. Gladmat 2027 is waiting. Come hungry and plan on leaving considerably less so.
