Wianki Festival 2026

Dates taking place: 20th - 21st June 2026.

Location: Krakow, Poland

Some events captivate your spirit, and living and embracing each moment becomes a magical experience, the Wianki Festival 2026 is the epitome of such events. The Festival, each June, is the biggest and most anticipated for the people of Krakow, right on the banks of the Vistula River, under the the historical Wawel Castle. The beautiful sights and sounds of the Festival are one of a kind in all of Europe and not to be missed.

Long-standing Customs and Ceremonies

In the historic books, Krakow is documented of holding a Summer solstice and mid-summer celebrations and festivities in the area since the 1700s . However, the Wianki Festival has only been fully organised and commercialised by Krakow city since 1992. The event also collaborates with other local cultural and artistic associations.

Celebrations and festivities in the area are documented from the mid 1700s with customs and rituals of the Slavs, including the Kupala night. The customs and celebrations are about the night of shortest and longest summer (light) nights of the year.

Wreaths, Music, and a Whole Lot of Joy

Wreaths, a flower crown centerpiece, are an essential part of the Polish festival Wianki, and the festival's name translates to Wreaths. Participants have the opportunity to craft and submit a flower crown to a competition. Workshops to guide participants are set up along the river. The tradition says that the crown should be set in the river and floated downstream. Young men would attempt to catch the crown, and with it, a young woman. Romantic, slightly chaotic, and absolutely charming.

In the middle of the festival, the concert of the most popular Polish musicians will be hosted at the Wisla Boulevards on Wawel Castle. And in the street of the Planty Park, a concert will be held. Wianki incorporates well known Polish pop and rock with a bit of folk and attracts a lot of students and visitors looking for an exciting outdoor activity. It is undoubtedly one of the most ignited festivals.

Like every other festival, an impressive display of fireworks will be waiting at the end of the evening to light up the castle and the river in an area that will make your phone camera absolutely redundant, because no photo is ever going to do it justice.
