Wianki Festival 2027

Wianki Festival 2027

Dates taking place: June  2027 (Dates TBA)

Location: Krakow, Poland

Every June, for the last few centuries, the residents of Krakow celebrate a midsummer festival on the bank of the Vistula River. They cover the city with flower crowns. They shake off their day to day lives. They raise the music, setting the tones for a three day festival. A festival that feels ancient, yet alive, that is packed with positive energy.

What Is Wianki?

In old Slavic culture, there is a summer festival that falls on the summer solstice, known as Kupala. Women would weave flower crowns. They would place the crowns on the river. They would hope that a passing man would catch their crown. This is a swimming crown tradition. It is held during the Wianki Festival. It is metaphorically for the purpose of fun. You do not need a man. Wianki Festival 2027 is not only a tradition, it has live music and open air dancing. It is very lively, but also very hard to describe.

Only The Brave

This is not a quiet heritage event where you admire things behind velvet ropes. Wianki is loud, joyful, and sprawling across the whole city. Silent discos kick things off in the evening, concerts take over multiple stages along the riverfront and around the historic squares, and live acts pour out of every corner of the Old Town. Electronic sets pulse from the Barbican while folk melodies drift from somewhere in the Planty gardens and you somehow end up at both. The festival runs from dusk to dawn - literally. The whole thing wraps up with a sunrise concert on the Vistula riverbank, which sounds like something someone invented, but is absolutely real.

Crafts, Tradition and a Touch of Mess

At the same time as all the music, there will be some free wreath weaving workshops, with relaxed teachers who really like what they're doing. Your finished product may not look like theirs, and that’s totally ok. While Vistula river cruises with floating exhibitions of historical Krakow go on, there's folk craft workshops that revive old Slavic traditions in a way that will never feel like a school trip. Without a doubt, families, couples, solo travellers and huge groups of friends all seem to effortlessly find their groove here.

Why You Should Definitely Come

The fact that the whole experience is free somehow makes it an even more generous offer. This will be taking place at Wawel Castle, and will have the Old Town come to life, as well as provide an amazing view with fireworks. The 2027 Wianki Festival will have an incredible atmosphere and all that is required is that you come in a good mood. A flower crown is optional, but could be considered strongly encouraged to come with.

For Travel Agents, DMCs and Corporate Incentive Planners

Okay, here it is. If you need a group experience that will hit all the boxes for a cultural experience, great ambiance, authentic local experience, and there will be no chance of someone saying, "Well, that was okay," Wianki Festival 2027 is it. Because it is free, it means you will have plenty of budget to work with for everything else. You will find it all in central Krakow, because the accommodation, restaurants, and pre or post event activities will all be right there in the center. It is taking place over an entire weekend, which means you will have plenty of time to add activities outside of the festival. This is why Krakow is one of Europe's most underappreciated group travel destinations, and with the addition of the Wianki Festival, it changes from good, to great.
