White Night 2026 - Contemporary Culture Forum

White Night 2026 - Contemporary Culture Forum

Dates taking place: 5th September 2026

Location: Various venues across Riga, Latvia

Most cities go to sleep at a reasonable hour. Riga, on the evening of 5th September 2026, has other plans.

White Night 2026 is Riga's annual contemporary culture festival — one night, one city, a vast and gloriously unpredictable programme of art, music, performance and installation spread across venues, courtyards, galleries and streets that you probably wouldn't have found on your own. That's rather the point. The city becomes the venue. The night becomes the event.

One Night, No Filler

What makes White Night work is its refusal to be tidy. In a single evening you might wander from a classical concert in a medieval church into a courtyard screening, past a light installation that turns a familiar building into something unrecognisable, and end up at a live performance in a space that defies easy categorisation. Nobody hands you a rigid schedule. You follow your curiosity and see where Riga takes you.

The Old Town glows. The Art Nouveau district does what it always does, which is look extraordinary, except now it's doing it with added atmosphere and a soundtrack. The Daugava riverfront catches the last of the summer light and holds it just long enough.

September in Riga is ideal — warm enough to move comfortably between outdoor spaces, cool enough to make the whole evening feel alive and energised rather than sticky. It is, by any measure, a very good night to be in Latvia.
