Boysun Bahori Festival 2028

Boysun Bahori Festival 2028
Dates taking place: May 2028 (Dates TBA)
Location: Boysun, Uzbekistan
Picture this: you're standing in a mountain valley in southern Uzbekistan, the Baisuntau peaks looming green and dramatic above you, the air thick with woodsmoke and the smell of plov bubbling in enormous cauldrons, and somewhere nearby a Bakhshi poet-storyteller is improvising verses that his ancestors were probably singing before your country even existed. That, in a nutshell, is what the Boysun Bahori Festival 2028 is all about. And no, you don't need to understand Uzbek to feel completely swept away by it.
In the Festival
Boysun Bahori literally means the spring of Boysun. The Boysun festival is a celebration of folklore and takes place in the small village of Padang, in southern Uzbekistan. It is a very big celebration attracting the attention of the world and is held once every two years. It is of such importance that UNESCO recognized the culture of Boysun with the prestigious award, Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritaiage of Mankind. Have the pleasure of seeing the ethereal beauty of the mountains and enchanting melodies that awaken the very fabric of dream. Be surrounded by handmade carpets that could very well use all of the free space in your luggage, and get lost in the music of most harmonically beautiful dreams with the sounds of throat singing and the rich culture bursting from the very heart of the village.

More Than Just Music
Expect a jam-packed schedule from morning to evening at our festival. You can watch and even join in our constellation of sports events including Kurash, the traditional Uzbek wrestling; ulak-kupkari, an equestrian game that is best compared to a very chaotic game of polo; kite flying; tug-of-war; and even a cycling marathon. The technology-free magic really happens between music performances at our festival. Silk carpets, jewelry, ceramics, and other items are sold by craft people at the yurt camp located in the foothills. The patrons even get in on the craft by skillfully negotiating prices. Patrons of the festival are in for a big treat, along with the generous offerings of the yurt camp. You can expect an abundance of region's popular dishes like pilaf, shurpa, lagman, and dymlyama.
A Culture That Has Survived Everything
What can be described as truly magical and timeless can be found in Boysun. Once you arrive, you will recognize and even be amazed that they have existed and done things the same way for thousands of years. The pre-Islamic traditions found in this region of the world can even be traced back to the Zoroastrianism, the once ancient, and now prevalent of fire-worship religion in Central Asia. The families in Boysun didn’t find these traditions in a museum, they have always been practicing them. Boysun Bahori Festival 2028 is a wonderfully and stubbornly joyful festival to show people that the current era of globalization will hopefully not flatten everything interesting.
