Knysna Oyster Festival 2026

Knysna Oyster Festival 2026

Dates taking place: 3rd – 12th July 2026

Location: Knysna, Western Cape, South Africa

Festivals have a unique culture, with each having something special to offer through their own lens. There is a special subclass of festival that should probably not be classified under culture; these include a festival that spans ten full days of shellfish indulgence while live performances happen right beside you. This is culture. This is the Knysna Oyster Festival, and we mean it when we say we respect it oh so much. The Knysna Oyster Festival is a cherished event that spans ten days every July to celebrate food, sport, music, and the ion exchange we refer to as sea air along the South Africa’s Garden Route.

What’s on The Half Shell

The oyster is of course, the star of the show. There is no festival in the world that goes to the extreme lengths of Knysna just to declare their oysters to be the best, but they are! At the Knysna Oyster Festival, there are no boundaries to how you can eat an oyster. In fact, you can even eat an oyster standing right in front of a sea-side stall while gulping down a glass of white wine without any guilt. There are even competitive oyster eating games, as well as masterclasses for people that think they are being sophisticated with their shellfish. If for some god-forsaken reason you just do not like oysters, there is a full food and wine program brought to you to keep your taste buds occupied.

Races include the infamous Knysna Forest Marathon, cycling through the indigenous forests, and mountain biking. The festival is perfect for the audience that enjoys the event as it combines a culinary and sporting challenge by offering oysters for those who dare to run a marathon in a forest.
