SA Cheese Festival 2027

SA Cheese Festival 2027
Dates taking place: Expected 14th - 22nd September 2027 (Dates TBA)
Location: Sandringham Estate, Stellenbosch, South Africa
There are few places in the world where roaming a farm with a glass of wine in one hand and a piece of cheese in the other is seen as socially acceptable and even encouraged. The 2027 SA Cheese Festival is one of those place. This is South Africa’s only cheese festival and has been on the calendar since 2002 with attendees lining up and going weak in the knees with excitement. In addition to being a cheese lover's dream festival, the festival hosted at the Sandringham Estate winery in Cape Town’s wine country is perfect for novice cheese lovers. From the true cheese lover who knows the difference between washed rinds and bloomy cheese rinds from far away, to the cheese lover who just likes to have some cheese with their wine, the SA Cheese Festival has something to offer to everyone.
What Actually Happens at a Cheese Festival
More than 150 exhibitors pouring wine and cutting cheese equals one giant cheese festival theme park unlike any other. There is live cooking demos from expert cheesemakers that will have you reconsidering every supermarket cheesemaking purchase. The BBQ gourmet marketplace is filled to the brim with BBQ and cheese goodies, artisanal merch, craft beer, and cured meats galore. Live music provides a weekend-long energetic atmosphere, with a lineup consisting of South Africa's top artists. It is lively and fun.

The Cheese Is the Star, Obviously
The cheese is definitely the star of the SA Cheese Festival 2027. It is incredibly hard to find South African cheese at the supermarket, but the festival brings artisanal cheese from local producers. Luscious Cape Wineland’s Camembert and small family farms’ bold aged gouda are just two examples of the amazing variety. A favorite at the festival is the Ladismith cheese carving competition, and visitors get the chance to carve some cheese! Cheese dare gone to die prior to judging. There are workshops and tastings for those who want to go deeper into the world of South African cheese, and of course cheese and wine pairing is a highly recommended.
More Than Just Cheese
Cheese festival attendees don't need to feel guilty leaving the kids behind. There are plenty of attractions for children. From the Paris Carnival based rides to the many game stalls distributing prizes, kids will have plenty to do while you devote yourself to the serious side of cheese research. The festival tends to start with a Friday cheese trade session, then opens its gates to the general public for the Heritage Day Weekend. You will likely arrive thinking you will stay for a couple of hours, but will likely be leaving five hours later with an unexpectedly developed cheese hoard and a big cheese festival smile.
