AFCON posed some scheduling problems with European players because of the new dates. This re-scheduled AFCON is one of the tournament dates that takes place within the European holiday season heavily filled with competitive football. This distance posed to football clubs within the English Premier League is constant criticism about players during the holiday season is a busy competitive calendar.

AFCON builds more of Morocco’s global football aspirations. This is heavily correlated to the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal, and to positioned the country more towards that goal, Morocco built a new 115,000-seated stadium to be finished in 2027 placed in Casablanca which is to host the World Cup finals. As for a more immediate upgrade, Morocco is working on international standard upgrades to their stadiums that are located in Agadir, Fes, and Marrakech.

Looking to the Future

In collaboration with the nations and clubs involved, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is strategizing on ways to ensure the tournament is orchestrated properly. The changes to the timeline are meant to allow African nations the chance to play fully and the most competitive football, whilst avoiding the clashes with the most significant global football competitions.

With Morocco hosting fot the first time AFCON 2025, it is positioned to be an important celebration of African talent, African Unity, and high-quality football on the continent. The tournament will be held in Morocco and is expected to be an important milestone celebration on Africa’s iconic landmarks.
