The 2027 World Athletics Road Running Championships may reignite our desire to watch competitive running, and now, potentially, to participate. Now, I may not be as old as some, but I want to make it clear that I may or may not be participating in the event.

The World Athletics Road Running Championships is the most global event with the hardest competition on the World Athletics calendar. Since it began, it has brought the quickest and most talented long-distance runners from the entire world. Featured in this championship is the one mile, 5km, and half marathon running competitions. Alongside the elite competitions, there are mass-participation runs in which everyday people run next to the fastest people on the same course. Road running is prestigious to first place prize money and personal bests that may be earned. Unlike the actual Olympics, this event is more accessible.

It is Yangzhou's time to shine after years of planning to host the World Half Marathon Championships. Although Yangzhou was originally selected to host the inaugural World Half Marathon Championships in 2022, their plans were postponed due to the pandemic. World Athletics opted for a more significant engagement for Yangzhou, hosting the full World Athletics Road Running Championships 2027. Participants race on course that closes public roads for the event, and the roads in Yangzhou essentially transform into a massive track for the day. Top tier athletes compete for 6 world titles in a run that has three distances. The running that you watch will make you feel as if you are running as well. Recreational runners have the opportunity to run on a world championship course and event, with a world championship atmosphere. You will not be able to say that every weekend.
China keeps showing the world that it has the ability to with detail and pure love, host major athletic events. Sebastian Coe is the head of World Athletics and has said amazing things about the organization standards in China when he hosts athletic events, and the local organizing committee in Yangzhou has years of experience.
