Salzkammergut Trophy 2026

Salzkammergut Trophy 2026

Dates taking place: 18th July 2026

Location: Bad Goisern am Hallstättersee, Austria

Let's be honest: Most of us will never run with the bulls in Pamplona. Most of us will never climb the top of Everest. Most of us will never even swim the English Channel. But if you have a mountain bike, and with a little bit of motivation, mixed with some dubious sense of what is considered a fun weekend, the Salzkammergut Trophy 2026 is probably the bucket-list event you have been waiting for. It is the 29th year for this event, and it is the one that has been bringing in participants from over 40 countries to one of the pretty parts of the Unesco World Heritage area around Lake Hallstatt. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and it shows no sign to stop.

What To Know About the Salzkammergut Trophy

The Salzkammergut Trophy is the largest biking competition in Austria and is held over a three-day period in July. During this time, Bad Goisern is reserved for mountain biking. While the extreme 209 km option is only for the hardcore riders, the rest of the 6 distance choices all differ in accessibility. In addition to the extreme riders, the 209 km option also has a 7000 m elevation gain and is only for the hyper motivated.

For your average, recreational riders, there are options lying in the spectrum, totally beginner friendly ones with 22 km distance up to 120 km. Some may ride for leisure and others may want to take competition. Nevertheless, the trophy is not for a winner at the end. Rather, this race is for mountain bikers to challenge themselves personally and take a moody snap for Instagram.

The Course, The Scenery, The Suffering

The routes wind through some of the most stunning Alpine landscapes in Europe. Think of crystal-clear lakes, towering peaks of the Dachstein, dense forest trails, and postcard-perfect little Austrian villages. If your legs weren't completely on fire, you would want to stop and take pictures every 5 minutes. In addition to the main MTB marathon, there are some other routes for those who enjoy their suffering with other types of wheels, a gravel and a technically challenging All-Mountain Marathon. But the most coveted prize of all is the black finisher's shirt for conquering the extreme distance, a reward many riders take two or three attempts to earn.

Family-friendly, with Kids in Mind

The Trophy Weekend is a hugely a family event. The Sunday Scott Junior Trophy allows young riders to take center stage, with age specific courses. The Bosch eMTB Scavenger Hunt is a great option for participants who prefer their cycling without a pressure of a stopwatch. It is a fun activity where riders are sent to find checkpoints throughout the mountainous landscape to win awesome prizes. The excitement builds throughout the whole weekend. Community members line all the sections of the course, passing out water and cheering as riders, as if to celebrate returning heroes. The amazing post-race party guarantees that even the most tired legs will find their way to the dance floor.
