Tyrnhaw 2026

Tyrnhaw 2026
Dates taking place: 17th - 18th October 2026.
Location: Trnava, Slovakia
Medieval combat sports aren't typically the most popular events. One of the best-kept secrets in the historical combat community is that the chaos of participants is what draws the hundreds of the most skilled participants to the Slovak city previously known as Little Rome. It creates organized chaos, with all participating having the same legal historical weapons. This is not a trick. It's a brilliant method of organization and combat.
Tyrnhaw's Greatest Features
Tyrnhaw 2026 isn't on the same level as a tournament that expects thirty participants and not much else. This is about as big as Europe's fall HEMA event gets. Large pools is something that sticks to this tournament as instead of having a bunch of people just standing around a vacation resort pool, they have participants actually sparring. And for the myth that is the Steel Wheel of Fame, guess how many people you would have to fight to become a Wall of Fame champion? You would literally have to fight a good 126 people to get your name on that wall, which is quite a big accomplishment and is like your local wall of shame, but absolutely not.
Tyrnhaw offers over a hundred events to fight in, so you can still get knocked out of the tournament early. And to become a Wall of Fame champion prize belt. Slovaks take a great deal of pride in the sport, so rest ensured you have to whack for an excellent reason. It is also, for a major title belt, extremely easy and a lot of fun for the spectators.

The Trnava Experience
Trnava is a real treat and is only 47 kilometers from Bratislava, so if you're bringing the kids be prepared, Trnava has been proven to exist since about the year 1211, so it is older than most royal families across Europe. It has earned the nickname of Little Rome, due to their impressive density of churches. Trnava is historical for a reason, and the density of churches is not the only copious factor, there are churches and medieval walls lining the city, and along these walls you can stroll and watch people practice techniques designed to literally and legally kill. The Historic center is beautiful. The tower of the city from 1574 is a Goth, and a spectacular view can be gained from climbing to the top.
The stadiums name is Mestska sportova hala and it genuinely integrates a medieval tournament and modern arena. Mestska sportova hala is genius and so is watching it, and it’s nothing like people flailing around. Every person is a top of the line, elite, master, and they know the laws and rules to committed Medieval hand to hand and close quarter combat. They practiced these fierce penetrating techniques for years, and once these techniques are practiced and learned, to a Medieval Knight standard, these techniques can be easily recognized and appreciated.
More than Just Fighting
What sets Tyrnhaw 2026 apart from the other contests is that Sunday sparring sessions and workshops are included. There's a ton of opportunities for participants to engage in learning more about the craft and reinforce the bonds made during the competition. The bonus materials on a DVD are sort of like what an international tournament sword competition is, especially since instead of deleted scenes, people actually get sword fighting lessons!
The environment is both friendly and lively. Competitors are bashing each other with swords. There is a lot of respect and camaraderie. Between bouts, fighters share techniques and compare swords. There are even arguments over interpretations of manuals for 15th-century German fencing. This is a normal occurrence at these events.
For the Trade
We believe that Tyrnhaw 2026 offers incredible potential for niche excursions, and we invite more of the travel industry to discover it. Team-building since the Medieval Age is the ideal concept for incentive planners. Imagine offering your executives the chance to witness the finest warriors of the trading empire participate in tournaments, and the opportunity to gain insight in to the techniques used by medieval warriors.
DMCs can include some of the finest commercial architecture in Trnava, along with some excellent Slovakian cuisine. There are incredible networking opportunities and the cost for services will be affordable, thanks to the relationship between the quality of services and the cost in Slovakia. DMCs have the advantage of a true medieval experience in steel and adrenaline. DMCs should make accommodation requests for these services as soon as possible, as requests are likely to be accepted in a short period of time.
