L'Étape Slovakia 2026

L'Étape Slovakia 2026
Dates taking place: 22nd - 23rd August 2026
Location: Slovakia
If you were to tell someone a few years ago that Slovakia was going to be one of Europe’s hot-top destinations for cyclists, you would probably get a little smile and a prompted subject shift. Well, look at us now. L'Étape Slovakia 2026 is in the works and putting an incredible case together that you should already be getting your gear ready and your eyes set on the Carpathians mountains.
L'Étape is the world's cycling series that allows cyclists — sure, you may have a 9-5 or some bills but also lots of power bars in your drawer — to ride on roads used in the official tour de France partner routes. The Slovakia edition brings that culture to central Europe with breathtaking landscapes that will have your followers questioning the integrity of your Instagram page.
What is L'Étape Slovakia?
L'Étape Slovakia is a cycling event where selected participants ride a closed route in some of the most breathtaking (and sort of torturous) scenery Slovakia has to offer. What includes steep climbs, uneven descents, old rural villages, and vistas that are sure to have you stop your ride, or at least slow you down to sightsee before the rest of the pack disappears around the bend.
With the distinction of being part of the L'Étape by Tour de France series, you know this is not some glorified charity 'fun ride,' where you get a bell rung and a medal just for showing up. Expect long distances, difficult climbs, and an enormous sense of satisfaction as you complete the ride. The roads are closed just for this event, and you will be supported the entire time.

The Route and the Challenge
Before you come, you need to know that Slovakia is not flat. Slovakia is a series of hills that suddenly turned into mountains. You will encounter a beautiful and challenging route. You will climb and descend, and for a second you may even pull the "what am I doing?" face, only to get to the top and look at the beautiful valley below and regain your smile. It is a fun closed-roads experience without the concern of trucks coming the opposite way. It is just you and thousands of fellow cyclists without trucks and Slovak countryside with breath-taking scenery.
Why It's Worth Making the Trip
Recently, Slovakia has become the best-kept secret. Building a reputation over the last few years, Bratislava has become an affordable city with great food and a chill vibe. The countryside remains untouched and beautiful. It's also not as difficult to get to as you'd think, and much cheaper than most of the popular destinations for cycling in Europe.
If you've been cycling for years and want to set some new goals, or if you are new to cycling and want to put your investment to use, L'Étape Slovakia 2026 is your type of race.
