Traditionally, lanterns signified the wish for the Sun's light and warmth to return after winter.
Children are the stars of the Mid-autumn Festival as an abundance of toys, paper lanterns and masks are given out to play with. Celebrated between September and October, this joyful day is known for its lion dances and lantern processions.

History of Mid Autumn Festival
Handcrafted shadow lanterns were an important part of Mid-Autumn displays since the 12th-century Lý dynasty. They were often the images of historical figures from Vietnamese history. The beginning of the 8th lunar month is the rice harvest season in Vietnam. It is a very busy time for many parents, who work day and night on the fields in Vietnam. It means little quality time with their children.
The full moon in this month is a chance to make it up to their children. That is why it it is known as the Children's Festival. During the Full Moon, offerings are made to the deities after a bountiful harvest.
