Cycling Adventure in Taipei

Cycling Adventure in Taipei : Because Who Needs a Gym When You’ve Got a Bike and Views Like These?

If you’re looking for a way to combine exercise, sightseeing, and the thrill of pretending you’re in a Taiwanese version of "The Tour de France" (minus the Lycra, maybe), then cycling through Taipei is the perfect group activity. With beautiful views, cool breezes, and a dash of healthy competition, this cycling tour will leave you feeling like a champion—even if your legs are on fire by the end of it.

Taipei’s Cycling Scene: It’s More Fun Than You Think

Sure, Taipei steals the show with its wonderful night markets and equally impressive skyscrapers, but don’t ignore its fascinating bike paths. The city is, in fact, a wonderful place to cycle. Imagine this: You're riding through parks, along the river, and perhaps even through trees while trying not to plaster yourself on an unsuspecting scooter (it’s fun, don’t you agree?). No matter whether you are a professional or someone who has seen their bike for the first time in a decade, Taiwan’s pathways for riding are a breeze, and it is not a bar to be in – only cheers.

The Tamsui River Trail: Where Your Legs Get a Workout, and Your Eyes Get a Treat

The cycling journey begins by the Tamsui River, which offers a unique experience of beautiful views and gentle trails. While riding near the river, one cannot help, but idolize and enjoy the impressive views of Taipei’s skyline as well as the mountain’s views on a further distance. This is where everyone in the group feels like they are part of a cycling ‘the bachelor’ show but without the roses and suspense. With nature all around you, it is quite easy to ignore the fact that you are perspiring like a recently completed a marathon.

Along the trail, there are plenty of pit stops where you can snap photos, grab a coconut water, or just enjoy the calming river view. The best part? You won’t need to dodge traffic—Taipei has bike lanes that are clearly marked, so it’s just you, your bike, and the occasional passing group of joggers who will probably make you feel guilty for not getting a proper workout.

What’s That? A Temple on a Bike Tour?

But wait, Taipei’s not just about pretty views (though they’re everywhere, so you can expect your group to develop a minor case of “can’t stop taking selfies syndrome”). As you cycle, you'll stumble across some of the city’s historic temples, like the Longshan Temple. At first, you’ll think, "Wait, we’re on a bike, not a walking tour!" But the beauty of this bike adventure is that you get to stop, explore, and marvel at the city's old-world charm—while still pretending you’re training for the Taipei Cycling Championship (they don’t have one, but we’re sure you’d win if they did).

Easy Routes, Big Views, and Snacks (Because Every Ride Should End with Food)

What I like most about this cycling adventure is that it is about taking time to enjoy the beautiful sights. No need to tire yourself out, there is just too much to see! The routes are pleasant and sightseeing at its best because it explodes with views as the parks and skyscrapers stand tall. And, of course, when you finish the ride (almost surely in a light sweat but very much in a state of relaxation) you will be at a place nested within some of the best food stalls in Taipei. I mean, who cycles and then doesn’t eat anything right? That is just wrong!

In Summary: Cycle, Laugh, and Pretend You’re a Pro

So, if you’re looking for a fun, engaging, and slightly active group activity that lets you take in the sights of Taipei without the need to hike up a mountain (unless you really want to), cycling along the Tamsui River is your ticket to adventure. It’s the perfect balance of sightseeing, exercise, and socializing with your group while secretly convincing yourself you could probably take on the Tour de Taiwan. Just don’t forget to hydrate, stretch your legs, and maybe, just maybe, take a well-deserved nap afterward. You’ve earned it, cyclist!

Soak in the Hot Springs of Beitou

Soak in the Hot Springs of Beitou

Beitou District is calling your name. Famous for its hot springs, Beitou is a little slice of paradise where you can soak, relax, and pretend you’re in a spa commercial. From steaming natural pools to the picturesque Beitou Thermal Valley, this area offers a calm escape that’s so soothing, you might forget what time zone you’re in (and, honestly, you probably won’t care).

Welcome to Beitou: Your Ticket to Instant Relaxation

First impression is everything, and the moment you walk into Beitou, you will definitely appreciate it – the temperature is higher, it is more relaxed, and all you can think at this point is, “Damn, I can see myself living here. A hot spring is going to be my new home.” The location comes across as an old spa town, inviting you to wear a robe, sip a tea and forget your worries the same way steam escapes from the springs. And, yes, your phone is likely to remain switched off. For now, at least.

Beitou Thermal Valley: Steam, Scents, and Self-Realization

The Beitou Thermal Valley is the crown jewel of hot springs experiences in the area. You’ll walk up to the valley and immediately feel like you’ve entered a mystical world where the air is thick with steam, and everything feels... very zen. It's like nature's version of an aromatherapy session—except instead of essential oils, it’s rich, sulfuric steam filling the air. Don’t worry, it’s supposed to smell a bit like boiled eggs. Embrace it. It’s character.

You might find yourself standing at the edge of the valley, watching the steam curl up from the bright green water like something out of a magical hot tub commercial. And if you're wondering if it’s okay to take a dip, the answer is... not in this particular spot. The water here is super hot (like, hotter than your phone after it’s been in your pocket too long). But fear not! There are plenty of actual hot springs you can enjoy nearby.

Hot Springs Soaking: Where You’ll Wonder If You’ve Ever Felt More Relaxed

Now, the real fun begins. You’ve made it to one of the many hot spring baths in Beitou, and it’s time to slip into the warm, mineral-rich water. As you ease into the bath, you might feel a little tinge of “I think I’m cooking!” but quickly realize you’re just transforming into a perfectly relaxed version of yourself. Every muscle starts to melt like butter in a frying pan, and all you can think is, “Why doesn’t everyone do this every day?”

As the steam swirls around you, you’ll catch glimpses of people in neighboring pools who look far more serene than you feel. But don’t worry—if you’re secretly wondering if you’ll resemble a boiled lobster after an hour in the water, rest assured, it’s all part of the process. The heat helps cleanse your body, relax your muscles, and probably gives you an excuse to take a nap afterward (which, let’s be honest, you deserve).

The Magic of Beitou: More Than Just Hot Water

Once you believe you have had a good enough time or are about to clock out for a snooze, it is time to stroll around Beitou and its charming streets. An area where buttery popcorn ceilings are well, quite literally all the rage, tacky shops packed with souvenirs and cafes that serve several different kinds of local snacks as well as bath products. And we also cannot ignore the Beitou Hot Spring Museum, a place that was a public hot spring bath before becoming a place of interest where young and old alike get the chance to learn something new about hot springs. That’s like a facial for your intellectual capacity.

In Summary: Soak in the Hot Springs of Beitou

So, if you’re looking for a place to unwind, really unwind, Beitou’s hot springs are your ticket. From the otherworldly beauty of Beitou Thermal Valley to the soothing, mineral-rich baths, you’ll leave feeling like a whole new person—or at least like a person who’s much more relaxed than they were 30 minutes ago. So go ahead, dive in, embrace the steam, and let Beitou work its magic. After all, when was the last time you got to pretend you’re a human dumpling in a giant hot tub? Exactly.
