Icelandair Spreads Its Wings to Pittsburgh

Icelandair Expands Its Horizon to Pittsburgh

May 16th saw the inauguration of Icelandair’s seasonal nonstop flight from Pittsburgh to Iceland, which is their sixteenth destination in North America. Many more people will now be able to easily get to Reykjavik and this is a dream come true for many. It’s great news for holiday makers as well, giving them an additional way into the US.

From May 23rd till October 31st, Icelandair's Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft will take off four times weekly into previously unseen heights. With its busy streets that are nothing like Iceland’s Otherworldly landscapes, this might be the way (or not) out.

Icelandair Spreads Its Wings To Pittsburgh

Bogi Nils Bogason, President and CEO of Icelandair said that this new route is crucial because North America has been their stronghold market with many Americans visiting Iceland each year. These bookings have also been encouraging thus far; there are bookings from 25 European cities looking forward to exploring Pittsburgh and local residents who have reserved flights to thirty different destinations across Europe!

Pittsburgh lies at the confluence of three rivers in western Pennsylvania and boasts more bridges than any other city in the world – hence its nickname ‘the city of bridges’. However, it is so much more than that. Located right in the heart of Pennsylvania there is plenty of culture, beautiful public parks, historic landmarks and enough sport activities for any sports fans - without forgetting all those fantastic outdoor pursuits just waiting on your doorstep!

Wild Icelandic Salmon

We asked Hjalti at Atlantik DMC about his favourite dish from Iceland and the Wild Icelandic Salmon it is. To quote Hjalti "The wild Atlantic salmon is a delicacy that has always been consdered a 'Kings' foot, and has been fished from Icelandic rivers since the Viking age. "

So lets dive into a dish fit for kings and Vikings alike – Wild Icelandic Salmon! This Atlantic delicacy has been gracing tables since the Viking age, and now it's your turn to savour it.

Of course it wouldn't make sense to start preparing this dish without setting your speakers to a favourite Icelandic song -
Set your speaks to play  Gleðibankinn (e. The Bank of joy) Fun fact - This is Iceland´s first entry to the Eurovision song contest in 1986. "It captures the spirit of the 80´s and the hopes and dreams of Icelanders that Iceland was actually going to win the contest that year. We ended in the 16th place however"

Ingredients Wild Icelandic Salmon:
- 1 kg wild Icelandic salmon fillet (the catch of the kings)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced (for a flavour punch)
- A handful of fresh coriander, chopped (the zesty hero)
- 3 tbsp olive oil (the golden elixir)
- Salt and pepper to taste (the trusty sidekicks)
- 500 g assorted root vegetables (carrots, parsnips, and potatoes)
- 1 bunch asparagus (because greens are classy)
- Parmesan dressing (the cheesy finale)
- A bottle of Sauvignon Blanc (for sipping and savouring)

How to Prepare Wild Icelandic Salmon:

1. Marinade Magic: In a small bowl, combine minced garlic, chopped coriander, olive oil, salt and pepper. Give that salmon fillet a good rubdown with this marinade. Let it rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes – it’s like a day spa for fish!

2. Root Veggie Roundup: Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Cut your root veggies into bite-sized pieces, toss ‘em with some olive oil, salt and pepper, then spread ‘em out on a baking sheet. Roast for about 30-35 minutes until they’re golden and tender.

3. Asparagus Assist: Snap off the tough ends of the asparagus and throw ‘em on the grill or in the oven for the last 10 minutes while the veggies are roasting. They should be tender but still have some snap – just like your favorite veggie sidekick.

4. Grill Time: Heat up your BBQ or grill pan to medium-high heat. Place marinated salmon on grill skin-side down and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side until cooked through and has those beautiful grill marks.

5. Dress It Up: Drizzle the roasted root vegetables and asparagus with a bit of Parmesan dressing. The cheesy goodness will have everyone coming back for more.

6. Plate and Pour: Arrange the grilled salmon, root vegetables, and asparagus on a platter. Pour yourself a generous glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

7. Enjoy with Friends: Gather your friends, raise a glass, and dig into this feast fit for a Viking king. Share stories, laughs, and the joy of a meal well done.

Now you've got a dish that’s not just delicious, but legendary. Cheers to good food, great friends, and the flavours of Iceland!
