In France, there is huge excitement, because they are hosting Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. It will be the biggest event France has ever organised. The Olympic Games will take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024.
Paris is preparing for this great event. The Olympics are an international occasion, a festival for all mankind.
History
The ancient Greeks started organizing Olympic Games in Olympia in about 776 BC. Starting with these games, the Greeks began measuring time in Olympiads which was four years between every edition of the Olympic Games. They held them once every four years for his honor.And it was a Frenchman named Baron Pierre de Coubertin who inspired its revival having floated the idea in 1894.The first modern olympics took place at Athens Greece in the year 1896.Jul 26, 2024 – Sun, Aug 11, 2024.
What is the difference between summer Olympics and winter Olympics?
In response to growing concerns about rising costs and logistical hurdles involved with staging the Olympics, IOC officials decided to change their calendar in 1986. Then there were only two years between Albertville (France) Winter Olympics in February of ’92 and Lillehammer (Norway) Winter Games held on February or March of ’94.The number of sports under summer olympics is more compared to that under winter olympics since it has thirty-two differing kinds involving three hundred twenty-nine events.On the contrary,the latter consists of fifteen snow/ice games.
The last time both Summer and Winter Games were held during one year was Barcelona (Summer) and Albertville (Winter) back in 1992.Thereafter both Summer and Winter Games have occurred every four years but while Summer Games come during odd-numbered Olympiads’ first year,Winter Games occur every even-numbered Olympiad’s third year.
