The runner's journey begins in front of a statue of Alexander the Great on horse back, which is a Pella archaeological marvel as they start from the ancient city of Pella. The statue is a kilometer away from the starting point. Moreover, The route passes through numerous landmarks such as Chalkidona, the Axios River, Gallikos River and finally leads to the Alexander The Great Statue on Megalou Alexandrou Avenue. The marathon is rounded off at the Statue located on the coastal road in Thessaloniki.

Alexander the Great Marathon 2026 is run under the auspices of Hellenic Athletics Federation and is a certified member of Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). Beside full distance international marathon, the event offers also 10 km and 5 km race. The 10 km race takes off at Municipal Stadium of Ampelokipi, whereas 5 km race starts at Thessaloniki City Hall; both routes offer superb views of the most important places and landmarks of the city.
