Fossavatnsgangan 2026 – Celebrating Iceland's Premier Ski Marathon

Date: 18th April 2026 in Iceland. Fossavatnsgangan 2026 is Iceland’s oldest and most esteemed cross-country ski marathon and is once again set to enthrall skiing fans in 2026. Set to take place on this day, this competition allows competitors to take in Westfjords’ wild charm while taking part in a historic and grueling race.

A Storied Tradition

Founded in 1935, Fossavatnsgangan 2026 started as a simple 18km race with only seven skiers. It has transformed over the years into a pillar of skiing in Iceland culture with locals and foreigners frequenting the competition. This event has occurred each year since it began, aside from the very short pause during WWII, and has never been canceled because of insufficient snow, highlighting the incredible winter conditions in the region.
