Instagrammable New York - The Vessel 2019
The Vessel
In 2019, the Vessel opened. This massive interactive sculpture cost nearly $200 million dollars to make. It is located in Hudson Yards and consists of a spiral staircase, a soaring landmark. Quite amazing if you think that not long ago this area of New York City was one of the last great undeveloped areas of Manhattan. The interactive artwork was designed by Thomas Heatherwick and Heatherwick Studio. It is supposed to be a focal point where people can enjoy new perspectives of the city and one another from different heights, angles and vantage points.
The structure is comprised of 154 intricately interconnecting flights of stairs -- almost 2,500 individual steps and 80 landings -- the vertical climb offers remarkable views of the city, the river and beyond.
Vessel is made extraordinary by the people who visit, and by experiencing it with others. The thought is that each person matters in the world.
While visitors can't climb on it like they used to, they can still admire it from the outside. has our top vote as the most instagrammable place New York
