Sustainable destination management — Body and Soul International commitment to responsible travel and community empowerment worldwide

Sustainable destination management is at the heart of everything Body and Soul International and our network of 70+ DMC partners do. We are deeply aware of the impact that tourism has on destinations, communities and the natural world — and we are committed to ensuring that impact is overwhelmingly positive.

From community empowerment projects in Africa to environmental protection programs in Asia Pacific and women's economic development initiatives across Latin America — our DMC partners are active, accountable and genuinely committed to making a difference.

Sustainable Destination Management

Our sustainable destination management commitment

At Body and Soul International we encourage every DMC in our network to participate in initiatives that support environmental care, social responsibility and community empowerment. Sustainability is not a box to tick — it is a genuine commitment that runs through every program we help design and every destination we recommend.

Every DMC in our network has a dedicated sustainability page — detailing exactly what they do locally, which certifications they hold and how they measure their impact. We also offer a CO2 calculator for every program — helping travel professionals provide accurate carbon reporting for their organisations and respond to their clients' ESG commitments with real data.

Four pillars of our sustainability commitment

DMC community projects — Body and Soul International sustainable destination management supporting local communities worldwide

Community projects — strengthening local economies

Many of our DMC partners focus actively on community projects with strategies to strengthen the local communities they work in. From supporting local artisan cooperatives in Morocco to funding education initiatives in East Africa and partnering with indigenous communities in Latin America — our DMC partners put community benefit at the centre of their operations. Every program arranged through Body and Soul International has the potential to directly benefit the local communities who make it extraordinary

Women empowerment sustainable tourism — Body and Soul International DMC network supporting economic opportunity worldwide

Women empowerment — enabling economic opportunity

Women play a crucial role in economic development — and our DMC partners actively support women's empowerment across their destinations. We encourage and celebrate DMC partners who create pathways for women to gain education, professional experience and economic independence — whether through training local female guides, partnering with women-owned suppliers or supporting women's entrepreneurship programs in their communities.

Environmental protection sustainable travel — Body and Soul International DMC network responsible destination management

Environmental protection — responsible stewardship

Our DMC partners are deeply conscious of the impact of tourism on the natural world. From waste management education and clean-up programs to wildlife protection initiatives and low-impact transport solutions — our network applies sustainable practices that seek to minimise and mitigate environmental impact. We actively seek DMC partners who share our commitment to conservation and ecosystem protection — and we encourage every partner to pursue recognised sustainability certifications. We support DMC partners pursuing Biosphere certification — the international sustainable tourism standard recognised by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation.

Working together — collective sustainability goals

Sustainable destination management is not achieved by individual organisations working in isolation — it requires collaboration between DMC partners, local communities, government bodies and international organisations. Body and Soul International actively facilitates the sharing of best practices across our network — connecting DMC partners who are leading the way in sustainability with those who are beginning their journey. When we pool expertise, resources and commitment — we achieve impact that no single organisation could achieve alone.
