Discovering Sustainability solutions with Somak Safaris DMC

Our commitment

Corporate Social Responsibility Policy

We at Somak Safaris Sustainability have taken it upon ourselves to better the lives of communities in both Tanzania and Kenya. Our program on corporate social responsibility seeks to create a positive impact on Africa through sustainable approaches.

Somak Safaris strives to practice and support all local communities and ecosystems present at all locations of travel. We believe in travel mainly due to its purpose in enhancing people and nature from all over Africa. And this is enough of a good reason to invest in responsible tourism.

This is also evident through the support we provided for the lion-proof bomas with the Born Free Foundation such as establishing constructive projects leading to sustainable and economically viable businesses even for the impoverished. This further helps reduce conflicts between livestock and lions which protects the lion population in Kenya. Furthermore, we contribute direct funds to aid marginalized communities and sponsor Amref Flying Doctors Maisha Air Ambulance cover that we distribute alongside East African holidays to Amref Health Africa.

On top of conservation efforts, we help local communities to become economically and socially empowered. We ensure that we partner with local suppliers, artisans and guides so that the tourism income directly supports the locals who make the destinations special. Furthermore, we design the programs in a way that facilitates the travelers to engage with the local communities and foster culture and respect in return.

We place Environmental conservation at the core of our business. We practice virtue, therefore we endeavour to integrate sustainable travel into our routine, partake with guests in projects aimed at wildlife preservation and promote responsible tourism behavior.

Somak Safaris considers that there is a purpose to tourism, and that purpose is positive. This will boost economies, environments, and communities in Africa for a better tomorrow. Which will ensure that the future generations will be able to witness the enviable wonders of nature and the rich culture of the continent. By travelling within Somak Safaris' network so our clients promote Africa and its wildlife all together because, all are for one goal.

Wildlife Conservation in Action: Visiting Lion-Proof Bomas in Kenya

Recently, Somak Safaris arranged travel to regions of Kenya that have recently been able to install lion-proof bomas and invited them to experience the transformation. This has not only ensured the safety of the endangered lions but has also facilitated local farmers vying to protect their animals. Travelers accompanying Somak Safaris had the opportunity to witness Wildlife Conservation in Action: Visiting Lion-Proof Bomas in Kenya and observe these sustainable conservation measures firsthand. During the visit, guests witnessed these lion-proof bomas and spoke to the community members whose lives have been altered by those enclosures. The enclosed bomas are constructed for the safety of the animals, and it came as a pleasant surprise that tensions between the people and animals of the region have decreased greatly thanks to these enclosures. One of the fascinating aspects that the guests witnessed was the structures acting as an animal protector as well as positing as a deterrent for lion killing. The visits were more than just opportunities to observe these interacting animals. It helped in forming deep personal relationships. The local families were deeply engaged in thoughtful conversations with the guests, articulating how their efforts toward conserving the lions have enhanced their lives and the environment around them as well. Such engagement transformed the travel experience, allowing the visitors to appreciate how interrelated global society and wildlife is. Somak Safaris, together with the Born Free Foundation, was at the center in helping in the building of these lion-proof bomas. This initiative demonstrated Somak's efforts toward practicing responsible tourism and long-term sustainable initiatives. By adding "Wildlife Conservation in Action: Visiting ...

Born Free Safari: Supporting Wildlife and Communities in Kenya

Undeniably, Kenya is a great safari destination with its beautiful scenery and rich wildlife. Currently, however, a growing issue of human-wildlife conflict is placing pressure between the local people and the wild animals. One of the effects of this problem is the construction of lion-proof bomas which are strong enclosures to guard livestock from being attacked, which in turn, helps lion conservation. Through the Born Free Safari: Supporting Wildlife and Communities in Kenya, travelers are now able to see this important conservation effort and get involved. The Eastern Africa region tourism coupled together with the Born Free Safari: Supporting Wildlife and Communities in Kenya policy gives one the compelling opportunity to travel through a tour of Kenya's most important wildlife sites. Guests will be able to visit well-known safari parks and see Africa’s great wildlife up close. More than just a simple safari, travelers get to interact with communities that gain from the establishment of lion-proof bomas. These interactions highlight the possibility of both conservation and community building. Lion-proof bomas have improved livestock loss for at-risk communities and as such have reduced the lions’ retaliatory killings markedly. This approach is almost effortless yet highly effective because it not only saves the important livestock, it also guarantees the preservation of the lion population in Kenya. Money generated from the Born Free Safari is used to construct more bomas, which helps develop eco-friendly measures that are useful to people and animals. Somak Safaris together with Born Free Foundation has done tremendous work towards conservation of wildlife and improving society. Almost in a half a century Somak has been active and knows the value of protectin...
