Events in Antarctica

There is no denying that Antarctica is a land like no other. While events are few owing to the harsh conditions, the ones that do occur are quite extraordinary. Most events tend to be scientific or environmental oriented.

Such activities might involve organizing polar expeditions or wildlife observations, or even special kinds of events such as jubilee days celebrating the exploration effort. Despite of the seclusion, the scene of exploration is very much present in Antarctica.

It is hard to choose which events we should publish. We are trying to include all the main ones, but if you would like to see another event added, please let us know at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

We add events on a continuous basis. So if you want to stay informed of the latest information, please bookmark this page.

Additional Events in Antarctica

Antarctica is perhaps the most hostile yet beautiful region on earth consisting of stunning ice structures and rare fauna. While there are no traditional festivals or cultural events, scientists and researchers usually celebrate July as it has their mid-winter. July is a midpoint that is celebrated as the darkest times of the winter have passed. It is a special occasion because crews use the mid point of the harsh dark winter months as an opportunity to have small get-togethers, share some food and play some games.

The continent is also home to fascinating natural events like the aurora australis, or southern lights, which light up the polar skies during the long winter nights, offering a breathtaking sight for those lucky enough to witness it.
