Anthestiria Festival: History, Events, and Traditions
The Anthestiria Festival in Cyprus is celebrated every May in order to welcome spring’s cordiality and the revival of life. The festival also has its roots in the ancient Greek celebration in honour of Dionysius, who’s associated with fruitfulness, wine and vegetation. The people of Limassol and Paphos have streets inclusive of decorated processions, flower fairs and some displays, all of which indicates how the town is blessed with nature and farming.
