Ghana is full of rich traditions and lively events. These local celebrations reflect its cultural richness, are often characterized by colorful ceremonies, music, and dance. Accra’s elaborate Homowo Festival to Winneba’s lively Aboakyer Festival: it is always exhilarating.

Community gatherings usually involve traditional drumming and delicious local food. Panafest, which celebrates Pan-Africanism and Chale Wote Street Art festival among others are highlights for both locals and tourists alike.

Aboakyer Festival

The Aboakyer Festival is celebrated annually in May by the people of Winneba in the Central Region of Ghana. Deer hunting festival which means the same as unique festival, consists of an ordinary hunt where a captured deer alive will be presented to their gods by participants as a sacrifice. Thus, a vibrant parade with traditional drumming and dancing along with plenty of colourful costumes characterizes this Efutu people cultural heritage during this event.

Hogbetsotso Festival

The Hogbetsotso by the Anlo Ewe people within Volta Region occur at the beginning of November each year. It commemorates the historical migration of Anlo people from Notsie (current-day Togo) to their current abode in Ghana; these festivities consist of traditional music, dance performances, storytelling sessions as well as grand durbar chiefs’ session. It offers a chance for individuals from Anlo to come together and pay tribute to their history while enhancing unity and progress within their society.
