From The City Of Pella To Thessaloniki – A Corrective Route
Unlike most other marathons, this one has an adapted course that stretches over the ancient Macedonian capital Pella and the birthplace of Alexander the Great. There will be a statue of Alexander the Great on a Horse at the start to signal the opening of the marathon mark. From there, the route takes Takis' Thessaloniki-Edessa highway and passes some more important sights including Chalkidona, Axios River, Gallicos River, and many more. At the end, participants will finish at the Megalou Alexandrou Avenue where the Statue of Alexander the Great awaits.
Course Details and Race Options
Like every other marathon undertaken by GGC MARATHON, the marathon of Alexander the Great is completled on a flat terrain. This is great for beginners hoping to finish under the best possible time. Apart from the full 42.195km marathon, there are also 10 and 5 kilometer road races for different levels of enthusiasts. The 10 km competitors begin their race from the main Municipal Stadium of Ampelokipi while the 5 km competitors start from City Hall of Thessaloniki. The routes are beautiful so they will get a chance to enjoy the views along the course.
