Events in Mauritius

Mauritius, vibrant isle nation of beautiful beaches and a great cultural heritage. This is a place where events are blended together with traditions from different communities around the island that has many races living side by side. Starting from music festivals full of life to religious ceremonies so quiet there’s not much else happening elsewhere in the world.

The Cavadee Festival is one such event; an elaborate ritual performed by devotees who go on processions too. Not forgetting Diwali which sees lights lit up all over the island accompanied by fireworks as well as Carnaval de Maurice where you can watch colourful parades staged along streets or some performances put up at night time.

It is hard to choose which events we should publish. We are trying to include all the main ones, but if you would like to see another event added, please let us know at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Festival International Kreol

In November each year, Mauritius celebrates its Creole culture during the Festival International Kreol which among other things involves dances, music shows, poetry recitals and cooking competitions too. The festival reflects on unique cultural heritages found within this island thus promoting them even further while also giving an opportunity for people to understand more about their own customs through use of creole language.

Mauritius Independence Day

Mauritius earned independence 1968 March 12th when British rule ended over Mauritius therefore marking this day as national holiday called “Independence Day”. People show love towards the country by parading through towns waving flags high aloft alongside various performances depicting different cultures around them. It’s a moment for reflection upon our achievements since becoming self-governing state but most importantly it serves to remind us of how far we have come as a united nation
