Events in Myanmar

Myanmar is a country with a rich cultural background and traditions. The history of the people here has had a great impact on their events, most of which are religious based. Celebrations may involve music that is lively, traditional dances as well as vibrant costumes.

One of the best events in Myanmar is the Thingyan Water Festival which is characterized by water throwing, parades and other traditional ceremonies held to mark Burmese New Year while celebrating this festival; people also sprinkle perfumed water on one another for good luck. Another festival worth mentioning is The Thadingyut Festival Of Lights that takes place at the end of Buddhist Lent when all streets across Burma are lit up with beautiful decorations portraying different objects from Buddhism or just random lights.

It is hard to choose which events we should publish. We are trying to stick to the main ones, but if you would like to see another event added, please let us know at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

We add events on a continuous basis. So if you want to stay informed of the latest information, please bookmark this page.

Additional Events in Myanmar

Thingyan Water Festival

Thingyan or Water Festival is regarded as Burmese New Year (also called Thingyan). This event occurs between 13th April and 17th April every year. People walk around town splashing water over themselves and others they meet along the way during these four days in order to wash away sins from past years. According to Myanmar’s customs, there are many songs sung throughout this period but only some popular ones include “Shwe Ngawe”, “A Linn Yaung” among others. Dancing groups can be seen performing traditional dances like U Shwe Yoe, Zat Pwe and any other performances taking place help make festive atmosphere more lively thus creating happiness within people.

Tazaungdaing Festival

The Tazaungdaing (meaning festival of lights) occurs during November on full moon day of Tazaungmon month every year. When rainy season ends it heralds winter time coming so this celebration acts as a send off party for rains before they leave completely until next year starts again; thus making homes look brighter than usual with various colourful lightings lining streets leading towards pagodas where monks reside temporarily till end December after which time these religious men return back to their respective monasteries depending upon where they came from. In addition there will be many fairs selling different kinds of foodstuffs such as pancakes among other things while people enjoy playing games like cane ball which is traditional sport in Myanmar.
