Carnival in Rio de Janeiro

Each February or March, carnival takes place in Rio and the atmosphere is energetic and bustling in the Brazilian city. People from every corner of the globe come to celebrate the carnival. Parades, samba songs, costumes- the festival says it all. The grandest event is known as the Samba Parade in the Sambadrome, where samba schools exhibit their dancing talents to the delight of the crowd. It is fun, it is about festive events, it is about cultures of Brazil with snow-white beaches filled with people dancing and celebrating.

Reveillon on Copacabana Beach

Rio’s New Year’s celebration, called “Reveillon”, is the biggest in the world. It takes place on the famous Copacabana beach and more than 2 million people join in to see the marvelous fireworks displays and listen to music shows. People get dressed in white which is said to be a lucky color and participate in customs that include hopping over seven waves to make a wish and throwing flowers into the water. It is a lovely culture that embraces and breathes the new year in fun of the cities of Rio.
