The Lantern Festival illuminates thousands of lanterns lighting up the night sky each year, making it one the most anticipated events. Another big event is the Dragon Boat Festival which sees people participate in thrilling races and other festivities. Through these occasions we get to learn about Taiwan’s traditions but also understand peoples’ communal values.

Mid-Autumn Festival

Also called Mooncake or Harvest Moon Festival, this celebration falls on 15th day of 8th lunar month (usually September or October). It is traditionally marked as a time for family reunion and moon appreciation. As they eat mooncakes, pomelos and other goodies under various shaped lanterns which turn night into day creating fairytale-like atmosphere around their vicinity many Taiwanese families believe their wishes will come true . Lion dances are performed during this festive period to narrate tales about Chang’e – mythical goddess who resides on moon.

Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival

Happening every year during Lantern Festival that marks end of Lunar New Year celebrations, Pingxi Sky Lantern festival witnesses release into heavens thousands glowing lanterns . Each person writes his wish/message on one before setting it free thus causing beautiful scene where they rise higher illuminating skies above them with hope rebirth accompanying each coming year afresh . Located small town called Pingxi this enchanting tradition attracts visitors from far wide who also won’t miss opportunity to see magic happen.
